I just want to say that the person who designed those things that keep a turkey trussed up and ready for wrapping in plastic is getting some SERIOUS SIDE EYE from me right now. It’s buried so deep into the turkey that I had to rip into it with scissors and still didn’t and couldn’t get a final piece out. On the happy side of things, it was a 25 dollar turkey and I got it for 8 dollars about a week before Thanksgiving. It’s smothered in herb and garlic butter, regular butter and parsley and is roasting nicely, but what a pain in the ass to get it there. All the prep is done, now we wait.

Another week and the holiday madness is over for the year!! Whee!!

I do wish these Voice activation assistants had a way of being location aware - lets say you are in a particular bedroom and I just say “lights” - the damn thing should just turn off the lights assigned in that bedroom, dammit….

dog philosopher ஐஒஔ௸  Dec 25, 2017 • 1:29:26pm

more amazing facts from the wingnut universe:

did you know that there is a “zarnowitz rule” - a rule of thumb that economist victor zarnowitz came up with to help economists do a better job of forecasting the end of recessions once they have started. in its headline version, it states that “the steeper the recession, the steeper the recovery”. as a predictive tool its record is not so great

but wingnuts, being the genius geniuses that they are, have seized on this “rule” as if it was a benchmark to judge the “success” or “failure” of a recovery

so because the recovery from the 2008 recession took longer than the recovery from milder recessions, instead of realizing that this is yet another example of the failure of the “zarnowitz rule” to predict reality, wingnuts loudly crow that the reality of obama’s recovery failed the “rule”, and therefore was a failure

re: #9 dog philosopher ஐஒஔ௸

Krugman wrote, back about 2009, that recessions after financial crises are different animals from standard cyclical recessions, and take much longer to recover from. For one thing, investors are FAR more cautious after an actual crash like 2008/2009. Scared money wants to find someplace safe after that. About the only thing people trusted was US Government Debt, the one investment that’s never defaulted.*

Because interest rates were already low, we were stuck where monetary policy was ineffective, and it would stay that way a while, partly because people were pumping money into Treasury Bonds.

He also predicted that the Stimulus Bill would NOT drive interest rates up, and that it would prevent a Depression but leave us with a weaker recovery than could be achieved by more deficit spending, especially infrastructure and direct payments to people. Tax cuts - which comprised 1/2 of the Stimulus, are the WEAKEST fiscal stimulus you can use.

So, you can listen to some bullshit ‘rule’, or you can ask yourself whose model better predicted reality. Except, you know, Austrian School economists don’t believe in reality.

Wow. I only vaguely remember there having been a series.

I do remember the movie, though, with a couple gratuitous shots of Jenny Agutter’s boobies - “Here, lets get out of these wet clothes before they freeze on us!”

So weird that now, she plays the Mother Superior on ‘Call The Midwife’.

That exists right now, since every TV in every public space plays CNN and FOX, which focus the vast majority of their content on Dear Leader.

American media exists to amplify Trump. He is their content. All of America is Trump’s audience, and America’s media makes sure that all Americans are focused on their Dear Leader 24 hours a day.

Currently there are devices which will “secretly” turn on/off TVs in public places. What we need is a “secret” device which will capture the parental controls of public TVs and add a secret code to prevent public TVs from tuning in FOX or CNN.
