Paul Gilbert Gets Odd: “A Herd of Turtles” [VIDEO]

A Herd Of Turtles from Paul Gilbert’s new album Behold Electric Guitar.

Paul says ““A Herd of Turtles” is the only song on “Behold Electric Guitar” that is not strictly instrumental. But instead of singing, I am reciting a poem. My poem is about overcoming challenges. The turtles want to escape a tedious lifestyle. The rabbits want not to be eaten by the fox. And the musician (me!) wants to find a way to play music, even when faced with severe hearing loss. In my poem, we all find a way.

I tried reading the poem in my normal speaking voice, and it just didn’t feel right. My instincts told me that “Ringo” was the solution. And after I put myself in a Liverpudlian frame of mind (and voice), everything worked much better.”

I’d argue that Mitch McConnell is actually doing more damage. He’s destroyed decades of what I guess was workable traditions and laws in the Senate in order to pack the judiciary with conservatives and prevent the Obama Administration from getting few if any of their allowed appointments done. And he has done zero as a major leader in the GOP to curtail Trump’s excesses at all; e.g. if McConnell was any sort of statesman with concern about the nation then Trump would have been stopped, or at least severely slowed, early on.

A California high school apologized this week for “culturally insensitive” yearbook photos that showed the Spanish teachers wearing ponchos, sombreros and fake mustaches.

The world language teachers at San Pasqual High School in Escondido dressed up in stereotypical clothing from certain countries, NBC San Diego reported.

The French teacher was also reportedly photographed wearing a black beret, sunglasses and pearls.

Trump administration plans to close 9 Job Corps centers

Job Corps (and AmeriCorps) are truly one of the countries most successful programs for assisting our younger generation(s) who are going through difficult times. This program works.

Of course the “solution” is to privatize Job Corps Centers operations. Just another plan to convert Federal dollars to private profits.

But it’s not just Sen. McConnell. If any of the other conservatives in the Republican caucus cared about the nation, they would have reined him in.

The GOP caucus has been moving toward this moment ever since Barry Goldwater made his run for President and people like Phyllis Schafley joined with him to promote his brand of politics.

They are now in sight of the brass ring: One party rule.

This isn’t on McConnell. He is just the face of Movement Conservatism.

Imagine being so fucking unstable that after you’ve been kicked off a website, you spend literal years creating your own site dedicated to harassing a person under the guise of “exposing” them to the world for… well, who the fuck knows for what? Not letting you play in their digital sandbox, basically.

The person or people who run it are off in a major way. I haven’t been there in years. I can only imagine what kind of shithole it is now since Trump got elected.

I got mentioned by username there once. IIRC, I was still new here and blissfully ignorant to the whole sad affair. I asked what was up with them. One of the flunkies caught wind of that comment (they must lurk like crazy) and had hopes that I would become a regular there and “see the light”.

Twitter is to Gab as LGF is to Stalker Blog.

Aaaaaaand, I’ve seen enough on the Internet to know Rule 34 applies to everything.

I’ve never seen “Game of Thrones” so I decided to put “Game of Thrones sex toys” in a search engine.

They are for sale. (There is also an Iron Throne made of sex toys a shop put together.)

They are -uh- interesting.

I guess the one problem with that analogy is that Twitter in-of-itself can be pretty awful, one thing that LGF is not. Quite frankly, given that both Twitter and Gab can be fairly Nazi-friendly, not sure there’s a lot of daylight between them anymore.

As US influence, moral and otherwise, is frittered away by Trump, others will step in and take charge:

Russia to send military specialists to Congo Republic - Kremlin

Russia is sending military specialists to Congo Republic to service Russian-made military hardware and equipment there, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

Congo borders Central African Republic (CAR), where Moscow has a U.N.-approved mission, and will become one of the few African countries with an officially confirmed presence of Russian military personnel on the ground.

[…]

Reuters reported earlier that Russian troops and contractors were on assignments in Egypt, Libya and Sudan, though only in the case of Sudan did Russian officials acknowledge the Russian presence.

Chickens coming home to roost, etc.

New orders for U.S.-made capital goods fell more than expected in April, further evidence that the economy was slowing after a growth spurt in the first quarter that was driven by exports and a buildup of inventories.

The report from the Commerce Department on Friday also showed orders for these goods were not as strong as previously thought in March and shipments were weak over the last two months, indicating that manufacturing was fast losing ground.

The sector, which accounts for about 12% of the economy, is being squeezed by businesses placing fewer orders while working off stockpiles of unsold goods in warehouses. The inventory overhang is concentrated in the automotive sector, which is experiencing slow sales. Boeing’s move to cut production of its troubled 737 MAX aircraft is also hurting manufacturing.

The loss of momentum came even before a recent escalation in the trade war between the United States and China, leading economists to expect demand for capital goods to remain soft.

And also……

Economists said the raft of weak data, uncertainty over the trade war and sluggish global growth could force the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. The U.S. central bank recently suspended its three-year interest rate hiking campaign and last month showed little desire to alter its monetary policy stance.

“We had previously expected the next move from the Fed would be a hike, albeit at the very end of our forecast horizon in late 2020,” said Michael Feroli, an economist at JPMorgan in New York. “We now see the risks of the next move as about evenly distributed between a hike and a cut.”

…..which lead to this conclusion:

“That does not bode well for future production,” said Joel Naroff, chief economist at Naroff Economic Advisors in Holland, Pennsylvania. “It is becoming clear that whatever boom the tax cuts may have created, if they did much at all, is largely gone.”

I never spent much time in Kyoto, so I don’t remember if I visited their two main temples or not. I did visit one ground, well kept, but I think that was a former emperor’s residence.

Anyway, Buddhism is whatever someone wants it to be, sort of like all religions. So many sects.

While in Japan I came across many, indeed I’d say most, Japanese who were nominally religious in the sense that they knew the practices and customs and visited a temple or two during some celebration.

But mostly I gathered that Japanese are just very superstitious, and they paint over that with whatever Buddhist or Shinto sect that is handy to them.

We seem to have a high ratio of potential war criminals in the military.

Only until you look twice at that number. The Trump pro-/con- is actually slightly better than Nate Silver’s current national aggregate. That doesn’t even account for the Army demographic—mostly male, mostly white, mostly HS educated.

The Army is a mirror of the country, or somewhat better.

Bernie’s only real merit when running in ‘16 was…well…he was the only real alternative. Unless you really believe that Jim Webb ever stood a chance, in which case I suggest you get your head examined. But now Bernie’s not running opposite a woman who was professionally respected but personally (at best) tolerated. And so he has to run on his own merits…which are none, because anything he does, somebody in the field is doing better. Considering Professor Senator Warren’s rising poll numbers, you begin to see why his campaign worried about her entering the race.

A reminder to all: in order to run in a primary, all you need to do is satisfy the minimum requirements for office (usually just age, citizenship, and maybe residency) and get a sufficient number of legitimate signatures. This is not a high barrier, especially given that most people know little or nothing about the candidate. To win a primary, you can rely on the ignorance of the typical voter and your opposition. For example, the Republicans never fielded a legitimate candidate against Dan Lipinski because he was a shoo-in and therefore the Nazi won the GOP nomination by default. In the past, the press did a really terrible job in publicizing information about outrageous candidates. It’s only if the candidate gets official or unofficial party support that you should hold it responsible for a specific candidate.

It had never occurred to me that the magazine was named after a famous activist, community organizer, and co-founder of the Wobblies (IWW). And one of my cousins was actually the President of the Wobblies (though I did not learn of this until a eulogy at his funeral 30 years ago)

I’ve said before that ICE needs to be dissolved….everyone who works for them needs to be fired and blacklisted from any further Federal employment.

Guess we’ll have to add CPB to that now.

And I will be pleased that the Gold Star went in the trash the night Trump was illegally elected because it has no value for me.

But then it never had any value for me.

We’re having my wife’s fam over today for BBQ and beer. I’m testing the beer as I type this.

This morning my wife and I moved a piano 500 feet down a hill on a dirt road, with a dolly and three sheets of masonite to smooth things out. I need to sit a minute before I open a beer.

Disgusting to see the Gestapo in front of the Ralph’s Market here at 7th/Western asking to see people’s ID’s.

The Gestapo must be dismantled.

I recall reports from years ago of white supremacists being encouraged to join the military and law enforcement forces in order to get the training and experience needed to fight against the multicultural transformation of this country. After all, Randy Weaver, Timothy McVeigh, and Terry Nichols were all in the armed forces.

The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs tried to force Christian views on its cadets. And Colorado Springs was the site for the BlacKkKlansman. So clearly that community had a problem with those who were not white or Christian.

But after all, there are good people on both sides. ///

I should have put quotes around “friend”! Given how Trump, before the first primary, openly mocked McCain for his service, anyone who supports Trump shows a total lack of respect for our military and the sacrifices of our military families.

Although I am not on Twitter, a friend who has ovarian cancer praises the site for offering a platform to communicate with others who suffer from the disease. I find FB invaluable for keeping up with family and friends and significant events in their lives, as well as offering a daily dose of humor.

You mean like Kathy Griffin, who had her entire career blown up over just such a photo? Her tour was cancelled because there were lots of bomb threats to the theaters, CNN fired her from their New Year’s thing, other TV jobs were cancelled… for more than a year, she could only work in Europe.

Detroit Free Press: Wealthy DeVos family won’t back Michigan’s Amash in primary

LANSING — Members of the politically powerful DeVos family are no longer financially backing a Michigan congressman who is the first Republican on Capitol Hill to call for impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Nick Wasmiller, spokesman for the DeVos family’s RDV Corp., said Wednesday family members haven’t made campaign contributions to five-term Rep. Justin Amash this political cycle and have no plans to do so.

He says the decision is unrelated to Amash’s recent statement sabout Trump and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the election.

Yet how ironic….

Detroit Free Press: Justin Amash, after Trump tweets, to host town hall Tuesday in Grand Rapids

U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, who recently became the first Republican to say — via tweet— that President Donald Trump engaged in “impeachable conduct,” is planning a town hall event Tuesday in Grand Rapids.

The event is to be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Arts and Worship on 2300 Plymouth Ave SE.
