LYRICS:

I can make the hills
The system is shot
I’m living on pills
For which I thank G-d
My animal howls
My angel’s upset
But I’m not allowed
A trace of regret
For someone will use
The thing I could not be
My heart will be hurt impersonally
She’ll step on the path
She’ll see what I mean
My will cut in half
And freedom between
For less than a second
Our lives will collide
The endless suspended
The door open wide
And she will be born
To someone like you
What I left undone
She will certainly do
I know she is coming
And I know she will look
And that is the longing
And this is the hook
I can’t make the hills
The system is shot
I’m living on pills
For which I thank G-d
My page was too white
My ink was too thin
The day wouldn’t write
What the night penciled in
But I know she is coming
And I know she will look
And that is the longing
And this is the hook
(I know she is coming)
And I know she will look
(that is the longing)
And this is the hook
I can make the hills
The system is shot
I’m living on pills
For which I thank G-d
I sailed like a swan
I sank like a rock
But time is long gone
Past my laughingstock
And I can make the hills
The system is shot
I’m living on pills
For which I thank G-d

I actually got a paper copy of that mess in my mailbox a couple weeks ago. It’s in the burn pile outside as part of our next bonfire. I’ve never seen an actual physical copy of the Epoch Times before or since.

Falun Gong is proof positive that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. They are seriously at odds with the Chinese government, to the tune of many thousands of announced arrests and Cthulhu only knows what other mayhem. Given that China is an authoritarian government with a history of brutality, FG’s claims of persecution are probably not exaggerated by much. At the same time, though, they support every position of the Russian influence machine and beat the drum for a eugenic approach to Covid 19, as in “let the useless mouths die, they are just old and fat and smokers anyway.”

Because money is all that matters. We’re disposable to them. They aren’t being hurt, their paychecks haven’t been stopped, they don’t have to deal with a state behind on UI payments, or anything the rest of us are contending with. Most of them are millionaires who have a vested interest in keeping shit just the way it is.

I know you and all of us here get that, I don’t mean to preach to the choir leader as it were. I’m so angry. I don’t know how to change this either, I’m not even sure it can be fixed at this point.

Hmm. I never see stuff like that. Maybe it’s because I don’t have a YouTube account and use a bypass proxy to see videos marked 18+.

The front page right now is recommending to me McLaren Speedtail v. F-35, NFL Bad Sportsmanship moments, &c. (I never watch that sort of thing.)

YouTube’s algorithm seems to be funneling people to alt-right videos (MIT Technology Review, 29 Jan 2020)

A new study suggests what we’ve suspected for years is right: YouTube is a pipeline for extremism and hate.

How do we know that? More than 330,000 videos on nearly 350 YouTube channels were analyzed and manually classified according to a system designed by the Anti-Defamation League. They were labeled as either media (or what we think of as factual news), “alt-lite” intellectual dark web, or alt-right.

The media is broken.

Only a couple days ago his point-person physician propagandist Dr. Birx noted on television that golf is a safe activity, explicitly making a point of that.

Since she’s a conservative first and a physician second, that was put out to justify Trump going out to golf.

Sacha Baron Cohen was right on the mark when he attacked the Silicon Six. They need to be reined in!

What a coincidence! I had calculated (ie “guessed”) that 18 feet would be about the maximum practical width for my multi-bay guillotine. This is just right for six generously sized individual work stations and would make the portable strapdown platform a very handy size for movement in spaces like town squares and football stadia. We could call it the “Six Banger.” Switching to carbon-fiber composite for the supporting upper structure might allow for 24 feet, in which case we could stay with the traditional automotive theme and call it the “Straight Eight.”
There appear to be many good ideas along this line out there. Like any open source technical enterprise, though, it will inevitably attract crackpots. One depraved sadist has proposed what is called a “hydraulic ram, sliding rotary blade” concept, about which the less said, the better.

They think they are immune and it’s only the poor, minorities, and nursing home residents or prisoners who will perish. Trump and Pence have escaped unscathed so far; the only Senator who we know contracted it is Rand Paul and he emerged without a new perspective. GOP politicians aren’t willing to die for Wall Street but they are fine sending others to that fate.

Here’s the thing: they don’t think this will kill them because they have access to the best doctors and hospitals. The ones who have had it have recovered, so it’s no biggie to them.

Both Maxine Waters and Elizabeth Warren have lost siblings to this virus, but it hasn’t made an impact. Rand Paul tested positive and ignored his own exposure and exposed others while he waited for test results instead of self isolating. White House staff and others have tested positive and it’s had zero effect. At this point even stacking actual bodies at their front doors would not be enough. They are that dug in and in their own world.

“Na na naaa na Goodbye” Seems like an easy choice for me…

I watched all of President Obama’s inauguration (where Dick Cheney showed up in a wheelchairs so he wouldn’t have to stand up for Obama) all the way through until Bush and Cheney were loaded onto a helicopter to be flown away from the white house. You could hear that song rising up from the crowd as the helicopter flew away. It felt so good to hear that.

“Moderna’s chief financial officer and chief medical officer executed options and sold nearly $30 million of shares combined on Monday and Tuesday.

and

Zach Fuentes, President Trump’s former deputy chief of staff, won a $3 million federal contract to supply respirator masks to Navajo Nation hospitals in New Mexico and Arizona 11 days after he created a company to sell personal protective equipment in response to the coronavirus pandemic, ProPublica reports.

Ordinarily a president golfing would be no big deal and even a good thing. But Trump:

- Promised he would be too busy to golf
- Instead he golfs more than any president ever
- Enriches himself by running up massive public bills at his own clubs
- Uses golf trips to promote himself and his clubs
- Cheats
- Golfs when he should be presidenting

Michigan extended their stay-at-home order until June 12th.

Lots of details and some reopening.

On the 26th of May my son can let customers into his disc golf pro shop (10,000+ golf frisbees) for the first time since mid-March, with lots of precautions. We were well prepared and he was lucky. He and his wife had spent the winter setting up a state of the art online store. We had expected 40% growth this year but are thrilled that after big April losses our May month-to-date gross revenues are 20% ahead of last year with just online and recently curbside pickup. (Online sales cost more to fulfill, though.)

We also got a PPP loan so it looks like his small retail might survive and thrive.

Covid-19 report from Alaska.

Numbers have leveled off and the State is now open for business.

Tracking COVID-19 in Alaska

Travelers from out of state are still required to self quarantine for 14 days. This is subject to change on a daily basis.
Many businesses are weary about opening full blast and are taking a wait and see attitude.

Went to the local Fred Meyers yesterday. The barges are running well and the shelves were well stocked. Many varieties of TP and paper products on the shelves. Even bleach was available. Still no Lysol wipes available
Looked like plenty of meat, pork, and chicken was available.

About 50% of the customers wore masks and all the employees were masked.

Speaking of masks. Freddies had a display of masks at the door. 3 masks for $8.99.
Looking closely at the package, there was an add on sticker on each package which stated “NOT FOR MEDICAL USE”. Otherwise I guess they would be sufficient to meet masking requirements for those who don’t give a shit.

Early this year I found myself in a $3500 screaming match with my insurance company. To make a very long story short, they covered my visit to a certain specialist but not the diagnostic service performed in the very same office.

Once it became clear I was on the hook for this I thought to myself “Wow, maybe I need to re-consider Bernie Sanders who promises to make this disgusting system go away”.

Less than 24 hours later was when David Sirota declared himself the REAL victim of online harassment, not women who dare stand in the way of Bernie. I instantly realized that Bernie’s (almost certainly empty) promise was not nearly enough to overcome how much I despise his taste in spokespeople and surrogates. I would much prefer to risk another surprise massive medical bill than to vote to put people like Sirota into the corridors of power.

Seeing the widespread reaction to Neera Tanden’s announcement today from people like this with roses in their Twitter profile, I am very satisfied with my choice.

Gets me so angry that the whole corrupt enterprise should be shut down and put out of business. And for those molesters, the death penalty is too good for them!

The first line of the lyrics is wrong in the official version. It isn’t “I can make the hills” It is “I can’t make the hills“.

It would be nice if someone could find a way to fix this. It’s a wonderfully evocative song, especially for a 72-year-old like me.

It’s supposed to be the magic panacea that solves all our healthcare woes. Forget that it’s not that simple. Forget that it still has to pass a legislative institution still held at ransom by the GOP in many ways. Forget that there’s a million and one moving parts still to trying to get this written up, much less passed, much less made into reality.

They’re just using it as the litmus test for who is a real ‘Revolutionary’ and who a secre corporate shill who must be first in line on the guillotine.

Sellers and Tanden are apparently first in line judging from the replies to Sellers’ tweet because apparently they and they alone are responsible for the current state of the US Healthcare System. Meanwhile not even 1% of that rage seems to be directed at the stonewalls that are the GOP.

So yes, celebrate that she contracted COVID, it just shows you don’t actually care about healthcare, access, or trying to battle the pandemic. You just care about spiting your enemies and seeing them suffer because they don’t give you 100% of everything. Small wonder they see so much common ground with the MAGAheads.

I wasn’t fond of racing, but on local rides I could keep up with Cat-2 racers with no problem in my 20s, even with several beers a week. But when I got into marathoning I could feel a real difference: if I drank beer the night before I was more likely to feel like I was going to shit my pants. So at first I created routes where there were toilets—gas stations and parks—along the way. At some point it dawned on me that maybe I should quit drinking.

I don’t ride or do marathons much these days, but I do shit my pants. (JK) But seriously, the availability of weed in the last year was great. I haven’t had any since March. I also haven’t slept through the night since March. Looking forward to getting some soon. Better for me than booze (though I still have a few beers a week).

Ugh.

At 546 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles southwest of Redington to 17 miles southwest of Court House And Jail Rocks to Potter to 9 miles south of Dix. Movement was east at 15 mph.

Nickel size hail and wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include…
Sidney, Potter, Dalton, Dix, Gurley, Brownson, Lorenzo, The Intersection Of Highway 385 And 92, Court House And Jail Rocks, Sidney Airport and Redington.

I live eight miles east of US-385 and NE-92.

Propaganda outlet of the Falun Gong cult. Mysteriously massive amount of dough behind it, far more than the Moonies.

Yup. I first heard of it ~15ish years ago, IIRC, and used to look at their English online edition occasionally. It used to be run of the mill (possibly mildly right of center), except for their _extreme_ but completely understandable bias against the Chinese Communist Party**. Only recently has it gone full throttle into supporting the far-right of the Western world. I remember seeing an article from the Epoch Times long back claiming the People’s Republic of China was looking into using Australia for lebensraum.

**I’m skeptical about calling any religion in China or any other country where freedom of speech and expression are so greatly curtailed a cult, especially given the Chinese government’s known anti-religion bias. Of course, if you know Chinese history and the Chinese view of history you’ll see why the Communists are freaking out over a centralized religion, especially given the death counts the last time this happened.

Similarly, that’s how I am with Luxembourg and Lichtenstein. I can’t usually remember the former and the latter isn’t ever the one I want.

One of them is the Grand Duchy Fenwick, the other is Freedonia.

I was planning on a June vacation back before covid19 broke out, and I cancelled it last month because I saw where this was headed.

That all these people are going about their business without masking up, social distancing, or caring that it’s spreading uncontrolled nationwide? Yeah, not doing that vacation thing. Too dangerous - for me, my family, my friends, and anyone else I come in contact with.

Wear a fucking mask.

All these fucknuts who think masks aren’t important, or that this is still somehow a fucking hoax or exaggeration don’t get what this disease does.

It kills.

It kills with regularity - and it doesn’t matter if you’re young or old. Yes, old people are more likely to die, but a young person can give it to an old person and that old person is just as dead - so it’s on everyone to limit the spread.

So wear a fucking mask.

Or avoid going where people aren’t wearing masks, because they’re a public health menace and risk that no one should be taking.

I read a story this morning that people aren’t wearing masks because that’s what the recommendation was three months and 350,000 deaths ago. There’s no understanding of science being ever evolving with new data and knowledge. Doctors are encountering this mindset over and over.

I had the r.o.e. talk with the boss about if someone refuses to mask up. Mom In Law asked me to unmask in her home to talk about something important. I did, but slid back and raised my voice for her old ears. Awkward. She can’t understand me masked. And she is the Matriarch. Big family, the boss of me in kindly ways. WH Rejects Baltimore Mayor’s Request For Trump To Cancel Visit Amid COVID (Talking Points Memo)

The White House on Thursday refused to cancel President Donald Trump’s upcoming Memorial Day visit to the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, Maryland, despite Mayor Jack Young’s request.

“The brave men and women who have preserved our freedoms for generations did not stay home and the President will not either as he honors their sacrifice by visiting such a historic landmark in our Nation’s history,” White House spokesperson Judd Deere said in a statement.

I can’t even remember what it was……

I went digging thru a folder with a bunch of pack-ratted stuff from my old bands (goes back to 1971) and found an Austin music paper called the Chronicle dated Oct. 1, 1982. It has a list of all the bars that had live music and probably some other clubs too. I can’t remember the name of the gay bar and I didn’t see anything in the paper that jogged my mind. I had band gig calendars in there that went back to 1977. Memory lane city.
