I found out that I won’t be getting any money from the $600 disbursement because I made too much money in 2019.

This is the way it works…you get the full $600 up to $75,000 of income. Then $5 gets docked for every $100 you make over that. Hence:

$5 * 10 = $50 per $1000

So, basically, if you made more than $87,000 in 2019, that eats up the entirety of the $600.

Now I was going to give the money away, that’s what I did with the last money because I have a job. But this is the deal. There are a lot of people, I’m sure, who made more than $75K last year but haven’t made anywhere near that this year. So, this need based stuff based on a halfway decent economy in 2019 is going to still going to shaft A LOT of people.

And $600 is bullshit. Yeah, it will pay a few bills but I don’t know anyone for whom $600 is going to cover their January rent. So yeah, I kind of understand what the Squad was saying. The whole thing is frustrating.

For the record, my evil too big to fail employer is expecting the disbursements to start in 2 weeks. I will keep you posted as I learn more.

My son called this afternoon to tell us he’d lost his wallet; he retraced every step over the last few days and couldn’t find it. At last thought it might be misplaced inside the condo somewhere in the remaining Christmas debris and went to go search.

He just called to say he discovered his girlfriend’s toddler had tucked it neatly into the living room of her house:

A very small portion of his ashes were transported to the ISS in a clandestine manner 12 years ago.
Sprinkled onto three cards bearing his image, then laminated.
One was hidden on the space station, one jettisoned into space and the final one returned to earth and presented to his son.

re: #86 thedopefishlives

So FiveThirtyEight is rerunning this article, which is fun. My scores look like this:

Openness to experience
71 out of 100
Agreeableness
54 out of 100
Conscientiousness
79 out of 100
Negative emotionality
96 out of 100
Extraversion
13 out of 100

No, I don’t like myself (or other people) very much, why do you ask?

hi

Since everyone else is doing this:

Openness to experience
96 out of 100
Agreeableness
33 out of 100
Conscientiousness
25 out of 100
Negative emotionality
83 out of 100
Extraversion
29 out of 100

Caveat: I’m not really open to experiences with a significant chance of killing me (skiing, sky-diving, motorcycle racing, rock climbing, exposure to Covid-19, &c)
Conscientiousness depends on what the action entails: Something important or critical or interesting to me, I am very conscientious
Nate Silver can’t spell: The word is Extroversion, and aphantasia works against me because I really don’t like being embarrassed (but just enough of an extrovert I could run for office in a very small town).

.

It would cover my rent ($545 for a 2 bedroom former Katrina trailer house with my storage unit) but not the additional utilities: water bill $45, electric bill $75, and gas $100. Up here, that’s as cheap as it gets. Most 2 bed room places start at $750+ a month and given the wages around here that’s hard to do.

Found out today that my father got the first round of the Covid Vaccine last Monday. The doctors at the hospital he’s worked with for over 50 years in the Pathology department put him on the essential list. He’s not been to work with them since this started as at 85 and post cardiac surgery he’s very vulnerable but it’s good to see they still hold him up this way.

alt: “That starving person needs a whole loaf, so there’s no sense in giving him this slice.”

Rep. Tlaib is directly showing the difference between a purity pony and a pragmatist.

Purity pony: $2,000 one time is an insult, the people need X a month until this is over, so I’ll vote against it.

Pragmatist: $2,000 one time is an insult, the people need X a month until this is over, so I’ll vote for it and then come back to fight for more. By the way, Georgia, turn out on January 5 to vote for Warnock and Ossoff, so we have a chance to get more.

I was hoping the stuck wienermobile was being driven by Paul Ryan at the time, but Ryan only worked for Oscar Mayer in the summertime.

re: #101 Aucun pays pour les vieux ennemis

My suspicion is that they thought they were warriors fighting Covid by stopping 5G, which is a mental-health crisis, rather than a real attempt to change the world.

I know that’s a fuzzy-line, since the Trumpists and Islamists are nuts too, but using the same term for a nut trying to stop 5G by bombing an empty building as we use for someone who straps on a bomb and goes to a night-club for their religion does not seem right to me.

If it’s a Q thing, it’s still a mental-health issue, but the Q prankster will now be a stochastic terrorist.

Absolutely not a mental health issue. The mentally ill are far more often the victims of violence rather than perpetrators.

I guarantee you if this person was not white, no one would be arguing mental illness.

Believing in Q conspiracies is a choice. Acting on Q conspiracies is a choice.

Whether a Q is murdering a mob boss, putting together an armoured car to block a dam, or blowing up two blocks of a downtown area, they are making a choice. They are not mentally ill; they are terrorists.

It is the week for veto overrides

” The Massachusetts state House voted Monday to override the governor’s veto of legislation that would expand access to abortion services in the state and codify abortion access in state law.

WBUR reported that the bill will now head to the state Senate, which is also expected to override Gov. Charlie Baker’s (R) Christmas Eve veto of the bill.

The bill that would lower the age at which people can seek an abortion from 18 to 16 and allow the procedure after 24 weeks of pregnancy in some cases. …”

Using the mental health dodge in these cases not only further stigmatizes mentally ill folks and treats them collectively as terroristic ticking time bombs waiting to happen but it utterly discounts and dismisses the literal stochastic terrorism staring us in the face every time Trump speaks, or a Q-nut spreads another crazy conspiracy to thousands upon thousands over facebook, and then wonder why a major attack or violent outburst just happens to follow one of these conspiracies to the tee.

I ordered myself some paraphernalia one time long ago. I managed to open it privately and ended up having to take some of the items that could pass and say they were a gift for my dad to use with tobacco. I also somehow got away with the brazen lie that, yes, this is the one package in the world entire that did so NOT have a packing slip or receipt. Just wasn’t one in there. (I have come to suspect that in this case, “got away with” and “convinced my mother of” were not within shouting distance of one another, especially after finding out how often I wrongly thought I was passing for sober.)
And I did manage to stash away the other items.
It has never come up in conversation.
