Federal Judge: Attorney General William Barr Misled the Court on Trump Obstruction Charges in Russia Investigation

Politics • Views: 20,368

Remember when the now-legendary Mueller report on the Trump campaign’s entanglements with Russia was completed and AG Wlliam Barr issued a now-infamous whitewashing statement before releasing it to the public, and everybody who heard it said, “That statement smells a lot like bullshit?”

Well, that’s because the fix was in and these crooks weren’t even trying very hard to hide it. But now that the worst president in my lifetime is no longer in charge of things, the truth is coming out and yeah, it’s exactly as bad as we thought: William P. Barr misled court on Trump obstruction charges in Russia investigation, federal judge says.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson of Washington ordered the release Monday of a 2019 memo prepared by the department’s Office of Legal Counsel. Barr and a string of Justice Department officials had sought to keep the memo secret, asserting it was part of the department’s internal decision-making process before he selectively announced the Mueller report’s findings that March.

Jackson wrote in a blistering opinion after viewing the memo and other evidence that the department’s claims “are so inconsistent with evidence in the record, they are not worthy of credence.”

In a 35-page opinion ordering the memo’s release in a public records lawsuit, Jackson called suspicions that Barr and department lawyers had been “disingenuous” in withholding the document “well-founded,” saying the department had sought to “obfuscate” its true purpose of justifying a decision that had already been made.

who would have thought that one of the jurists behind the illegality of the Iran-Contra affair would end up being a partisan mouthpiece while running the Justice Department.

wow…. total shocker.

There is going to be so much this stuff that’s going to be revealed this year, just how corrupt the whole Trump administration was. I truly hope they all go to jail.

There’s no place in the modern Republican party for anyone who won’t go full fascist. The sooner they figure it out and join the fight against fascism, the better. Then we can go back to slamming them for their inhumane economic, immigration, and foreign policy views.

The flaw in this line of thinking is that from my experience virtually all Republicans have always been in favor of outright fascism if it means stepping on the necks of anyone not considered white enough…. or the right type of Christian. The George Will-type of Republican has always been an extreme minority within that party to provide cover for the real nature of this evil.

All those fuckers who are trying to circumvent the Twitter ban should find themselves also banned permanently for TOS violations. Fact remains that Trump hasn’t changed his tune one bit. He’s a one trick pony: needy, vain, and such a fragile snowflake with a huge ego that has destroyed everything he’s touched. He wrecked the economy, killed 500,000+ with his disastrous covid19 response, and sought to overthrow the government to remain in power.

The GOP continues to show its allegiance to Trump, because they’re both afraid of the base and unwilling to cross him because reasons. Trump hasn’t done anything positive for the GOP: under Trump, GOP lost control of the House, Senate, and the WH.

That’s not a winning combination, and yet he’s acting as though he should be the kingmaker.

The fact that the GOP covered up his crimes in both impeachments, and Barr knowingly interfered in ongoing investigations to thwart criminal charges being brought against Trump immediately goes to how badly the GOP have corrupted the rule of law. It isn’t totally gone, but it will take time and lots of prosecutions to get this under control.

I guess distinct is a bit vague there. I was thinking of making a list of all his lies, and then removing duplicates and repetitions. So it would be a spectacularly severe flogging, but not quite eternal.

That’s actually not surprising. A certificate requires administrative privileges somewhere along the line; either a systems administrator to access the secrets required to generate a new one, or a manager to pay for the renewal with a trusted third party vendor.

I see your teleprinter and raise you an IBM 29 card punch, circa 1972-1978. It was, at the time, the sole means to enter programs into the venerable IBM 360.

And yes that is the punch card system I first used!

This was the first computer system I used during my summer semester at the county Vo-Tech school—IBM System 360!

I started on an IBM 1120, but took college courses on the 360.

I’ve become a sucker for reaction videos, and catching a lot of them for the last episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So all geeks of all genders and multiple ethnicities. And it made so many white guy geeks tear up (me included).

My favorite school system was at the vocational school:

ATT Unix PC. aka PC 7300, and often dubbed the “3B1”

It was maxed out with a 4mb ram, 2 (!) 67 mb disk drives with a 68010 cpu at 10mhz. We had something like 2 dozen serial terminals hanging off of it and it handled us quite well. I remember getting the sources for Moria via UUCP and stress testing the C compiler with them :D

Much more fun than doing COBAL on the AS400 which, to be fair, did have quite nice IBM terminals to work at.

My first year in college, back when I was trying to decide between Physics or EE to major in (and chose neither eventually by failing out this time around) my first computer oriented class was a Fortran 77 class for Math/Science/Engineering majors.

We had a room full of dumb terminals connected to an SCO Unix server.

I still have the Fortran 77 book.

I can top that.

What’s more surprising is a systems admin who is so incompetent that they couldn’t get the certificate renewal done and installed at all points of sale in advance of the expiration date.

You have no idea how *easy* it is. Because certs are *everywhere*. And if you don’t have an automated cert repository, you are going to have these issues ALL THE TIME.

Arizona Senate’s Auditors Must Vacate Veterans Memorial Coliseum On May 14

A review of the 2020 election in Maricopa County, ordered by the Republican-led Arizona Senate, is far behind schedule and won’t be finished in the time frame officials previously promised.
… snip…

Bennett has told reporters the Senate is trying to amend its agreement at the coliseum to continue working past May 14, a deadline in the contract Bennett previously vowed would be met.

…snip…

But the rental agreement signed by the Senate — an agreement a state official now says is unlikely to be extended — requires the Senate and its firms to remove all voting equipment and election materials, including ballots from the coliseum no later than May 14.

Do these security certificates actually improve security?

I’m not a cert expert, but I do know that in an organization that moves billions and billions of Other People’s Money all day and night long, we are going to go with the tightest security, because Other People’s Money. I have no idea what it’s like in organizations that don’t have to be so secure, because I’ve worked here since the 1990s.

I do remember when the security team moved the predecessor bank I worked for from five character to six character passwords and they did it in a way that did not verify the five character password and then force a change to a six character password. There were people who could not log in as a result. The security team had to roll the password change back because it was screwing with the business of moving money.

re: #90 Dread Pirate Ron

So he’s agreeing with those of us who know he’s a fucking war criminal? I often wonder what happened to a person to turn them into a force of evil. Are humans born this way? I’ve cared for a lot of infant through toddler age kids in my life and I never saw personality traits that would indicate such horrors. Difficult sometimes, sure, that’s part of the deal, it’s not simple or easy to raise children into being decent grown humans in the best of circumstances.

So if it’s not there when we’re young, what breaks a person so much that they get off on suffering, death and murder? What the hell? And then you have the people who think what this stain did is fine, I’m honestly torn sometimes about who is worse.
