Not allowed rather than not required tells me all I need to know about your neighbor, and I would not want any invitations from them.

Yeah, I don’t know the guy well. I don’t have kids. Only reason I saw the invite is because another neighbor (who was invited) was telling me about it.

I live in a deep red area. I wouldn’t have gone even if I had been invited.

Catholics assaulting a clinic worker at a women’s clinic in Belleview, Nebr. (2:20)

They are well-known to terrorise women in the area, just as Jesus would do. Frequently when there are couples, the woman will dress up in Scrubs to try to deceive women into thinking they are clinic workers. (Lying for Jesus was promoted both by St. Augustine and Martin Luther.)

We hosted an indoor dinner for 4 couples last night. Originally it was scheduled for the great outdoors, but it was cold and breezy and we’re all vaccinated, so we decided indoors would be better. It was great fun and surprisingly normal.
We all wear masks religiously when in stores and whatnot, vaccination rates are high, and cases are low in our corner of the world. A glimpse of normalcy for which I’m quite willing to keep masking indefinitely if it helps things along.

Not this crap again… .

LINCOLN — After being forced to abandon his attempt to allow permitless carry of concealed firearms in most Nebraska counties, State Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon is planning a counter-offensive in 2022.

Brewer, a decorated military veteran and competitive shooter, said he will seek approval of so-called “constitutional carry” of concealed guns statewide, not just in 90 of 93 counties as his recently revised bill would have done.

He’ll have a powerful ally, Gov. Pete Ricketts, who advocates for gun rights and supports constitutional carry, which has been passed by 20 other states, including Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Such a move in Nebraska would rescind the current state law that requires state approval of a concealed carry permit, after a background check and completion of a gun safety course.

“There’s good momentum for it right now,” Brewer said. “And next year is an election year. We’ll get a really clear up-and-down vote on the Second Amendment.”

The state attorney general has already weighed in on his bill which was just defeated that the bill unconstitutionally shifts state burdens to local governments.

You know what made me happy yesterday? I stopped by the Circle K and people were in and out, dressed casually, most still wearing masks, but buying brewski, getting gas for their boats and basically in a very good mood. It was a bright, sunny day and people were going out to the lake to enjoy themselves. It was a very different scene than a year ago.

Nope. They saw who Trump is, his reputation proceeds him. They saw the tea party fools getting mad and mean and didn’t do a damned thing to cut this crap off before it got a foothold. And the only way any of this happened was approval from the top down. They have split up families and friendships and fed a lot of the worst human beings can offer up. While allowing and enabling the rich to fuck over the rest of us even more. If they want to make it right they need to let us know everything they do about various assholes they work with. State lawmakers tell Department of Education to not pursue federal grants for history, civics classes (Rapid City Journal)

A legislative committee has notified the state’s Department of Education to not pursue any federal grants for history and civics curriculum until the entire Legislature has an opportunity to pursue legislation to address Critical Race Theory.

Can’t have students learning about the history of racism in the USA either.

The Joint Appropriations Committee voted 16-1 on Tuesday to send a Letter of Intent to Secretary of Education Tiffany Sanderson with policy guidance on civics education, a focus of Gov. Kristi Noem and the Legislature during the 2021 session.

Noem was the first governor to sign the 1776 Pledge to Save Our Schools, which seeks to prohibit teaching students to “hate their own country and pitting them against one another on the basis of race or sex.”

Lead co-chair of Joint Appropriations Sen. Jean Hunhoff, R-Yankton, said she did not know what Critical Race Theory meant, but has been seeing discussions about it occurring nationally. She said the Letter of Intent merely raises questions about what exactly Critical Race Theory entails, and as it is a new theory the state should be cautious about incorporating it into the classroom.

Three new deaths from Covid-19 in the Panhandle, the first in several weeks.

Three deaths related to COVID-19 were announced during a briefing by COVID-19 Unified Command as officials urge people to receive vaccinations and take steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A Dawes County man in his 90s, a Scotts Bluff County man in his 40s and a Sheridan County woman in her 70s were confirmed as the latest COVID-related deaths in the Panhandle, bringing the total number of people who have died in the region due to COVID-19 to 194 since the outbreak began.

“We share our sympathy in the loss of our fellow Panhandle residents,” said Panhandle Public Health District Director Kim Engel.

A total of 19 new cases of COVID were announced in the Panhandle in the last week: one in Box Butte County; three in Cheyenne County; three in Dawes County; one in Deuel County; one in Kimball County; one in Morrill County; four in Scotts Bluff County; five in Sheridan County. A total of 26,011 Panhandle residents have been vaccinated as of Monday.

Yesterday I was at a wedding up in the mountains above Great Salt Lake at a private cabin accessible only by high clearance 4X4 or dirt bike. It was a beautiful ceremony that befitted the bride and groom perfectly. Reception was at their house in Salt Lake City. The bride’s closest kin was all in attendance, her brother, her mother, close friends. The groom’s family made the wedding the biggest gathering I’ve been to since the before times. I mention the groom’s family because he is an ex-Mormon, and his family is very large. His parents, four of his siblings, their children, lots of cousins, that was 50 people just with the groom’s family. No masks at all, both events held outdoors, lots of children running around. Group photos, oh lord, the group photos… the photos in general, just click click click click click. And I’ve never seen so much non-alcoholic champagne consumed in one setting, pretty sure they used more of the fake stuff than the real stuff.

Bride and groom insisted on vaccinated guests, went by the honor system. Everybody I talked to was all for it and wondering when they can get their children vaccinated.

I will be interested to see if the counties west of Philadelphia continue to trend Democratic. A bunch of the county positions went majority Democratic in 2019, and I am curious if the GOP will continue to lose ground.

I have friends on Discord recommending the “Mare of Easttown” series to me. Looked it up on Wikipedia and realized that the Easttown township that the series has a fictional equivalent of starts about 200 yards from me. Might have to watch it simply to see if I recognize some of the locations since they did filming in Coatesville and in Delaware County.

That sign is located at the trail-head for a very popular hiking/dog walking trail that goes around the airport.
It was installed by the airport wildlife control crew as a joke. I have not heard of any coyotes in the Juneau area.

I have seen a coyote in the wild in an old timber sale located about 50 miles west of Juneau. A year or two earlier I saw a pack of wolves in the same area.

quick question on why not get vaccinated (i’ll be back after dinner)

ok how do you know you’re not going to get covid?
(unless you believe it’s a hoax)

because if you do get vaccinated and then you get covid, you wont:
- have to go to a hospital
- or defiantly stay home and agonize (mostly no symptoms at all - some dont even know they got it)
- and you wont die

so what’s the upside of not getting the vax unless you’re scared of all vaccinations?

re: #149 teleskiguy

It’s not just that. We have a shortage of mental healthcare providers and facilities. And health insurance companies are pathetic in how much they won’t pay for long term therapy as just one example. It’s something that has to be dealt with. Maybe by offering free education for a new generation of psychiatrists, psychologists, assorted therapists and other professionals and caregivers. Offering grants and low interest loans to help remodel and adapt empty spaces or build new ones might help. There’s just a lack of will to do it. And there will be until we can figure out a way to pressure the powers that be to fix this mess.

I am somewhat reluctant to just push off what all these fuck nuggets are doing as mental illness. Granted a fair share of these people need help, therapy, maybe meds, maybe even hospitalization for awhile. But just as many of these people are doing it because they get off on being assholes, for attention, even to try and profit from it. As someone who struggles with anxiety, a panic disorder and PTSD, I don’t want consequences for shitty actions and being hateful because they can to be excused by mental illness.

In many places the GOP is losing ground, though of course those places tend to already be weak for Republicans.

In my reply I was thinking of an example such as two subclasses:
A) Republicans.inDelaware.withGraduateDegrees
B) Republicans.inFlorida.atTheVillages

likely responding quite differently to that survey.

I’m not sure they would respond all that differently to that survey. Their reasons for believing the election is illegitimate may vary - truthy nonsense about ‘irregularities’ vs the ghost of Hugo Chavez arglebargle - but a core belief of the modern Republican is that only Republicans can legitimately hold power.

Every surgeon’s lounge in America is full of Trumpers and Republicans. None of them believe that Democrats won the last election. None of them believe that Democrats could have won without ‘illegal’ votes. Education and money does not make them any less fascist.

It could go in any direction with the show’s creator having been let go for a history of abuse. I decided to pass on it when Whedon’s history was revealed. They’re going back and forth on renewal, and if it makes it to season 3, having succeeded to move on from Whedon, I’ll check it out.

It’s gotten impossible for me to defend Israel’s actions as their government has been increasingly taken over by the extreme right and the cynical corrupt fuckers like Bibi. And for the record, I still despise Hamas and everything they stand for, too.

I hate that it’s come to this. I have many Israeli friends and I know they’re all agonizing right now.

So here’s a question or seven…

What in the hell are we going to do about the deeply engrained awful so many Americans are so enthusiastically embracing? I am not naive enough to think we’ll ever be able to live in a happy adorable world with no racism, no hate, and the rest of shit humans do to make each other miserable. That for sure isn’t possible. We have history that isn’t all that pretty. But, this shit happening now has to GO. It’s evil and causes huge amounts of anxiety, suffering and chaos that doesn’t have to be, it’s ruining everything it’s allowed to (sometimes even literally) shit all over. How do we minimize this shit and stomp it down? Taking the high road isn’t working all that well for decent humans just trying to make it. I know there has pretty much always been a level of evil in humans, but we cannot allow it to take over everything. I think a lot about this as I get older and worry how my son will ever be alright once I am gone and can’t help him work out a way to deal with crap that people are capable of. Along with providing a safe and secure place to be and come home to. Sigh. We have to do better. Somehow.

Sounds that way: though I’m wondering how many of these agents are relatively new hires (I.e. from TFG’s Admin), and how many are longer-term “lifers”?
That border agents hired by the Trumpsters might be pissed off at not being able to brutalize “illegals” any more doesn’t strain credibility a lot….

I would assume to be able to take retirement even if early, you would need a certain number of years under your belt, certainly more than 4.

No one with a real background in statistics would ever make that statement. When sampling a population it is not the number of people in the sample that matter but whether they represent a unbiased, preferably stratified, random selection of the population.

It’s a shame there’s no way to use the service over a landline. The older person living alone with no car isn’t going to be reached by programs to vaccinate the homeless or be able to use Uber. They fall through the crack.

Matt Walsh is not promoting anything new; this is the common outlook among those addicted to RW media. Recall Tucker Carlson urging bystanders to submit reports of child abuse if children are masked.

Our brother is “sane” for a Trumpster when it comes to covid. We didn’t discuss the most recent CDC guidance. He was talking today about the terrible upsurge in cases in Japan so I investigated and discovered: yes they are in the midst of a new wave, as bad as the last one but on a per capita base, their case count and death rate is half ours. I was actually shocked that it was so high and then discovered that their inoculation rate is less than 2%.
