Kurt Eichenwald on Sunday posted to twitter and later, apparently removed it, the hypothesis from a Geriatric MD that Trump was wearing adult pull-up pants and an adult diaper.

2021-2022 it’s now Manchin and Sinema blocking Joe.

Noel Casler, a former Celebrity Apprentice employee has been discussing Trump’s use of adult diapers for several years now. He puts it down to heavy substance abuse.

Woke up with this song in my head, sure I hadn’t heard it in years. Something must have triggered the memory - or maybe just a random neuron firing somewhere…never noticed how lovely the bass is until re-listening just now.

It’s Sunday, so in this week’s edition of Weird Religious News:

Stuck Noah’s Ark sparks international incident as Government urged to aid rescue (East Anglia Daily Times)

The British Government is being urged to wade into an “extraordinary” international incident involving the replica of Noah’s Ark currently stuck on Ipswich Waterfront, we can reveal today.

This newspaper reported in April that the floating biblical museum which docked at Orwell Quay in November 2019 had in fact been detained there by the coastguard for almost its entire 18-month stay.

Now it has emerged in documents obtained via Freedom of Information laws that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) does not deem the Ark seaworthy. It also cannot sail under a Dutch flag despite being registered there, key certification is missing and, since April 1, the vessel has been accruing a fine of £500 a day.

The Ark’s owners want to leave but the coastguard will not allow it to so an “impossible stalemate” has been reached. It has led to wrangling between the British and Dutch authorities which has culminated in the transport secretary Grant Shapps being asked to intervene.

One option being floated is the UK Government making an exception and granting the 70m long vessel - a biblical museum - a single trip back to Holland.

(more, this issue is not related to Brexit, with pictures of the ark at the pier)

Noel Casler, a former Celebrity Apprentice employee has been discussing Trump’s use of adult diapers for several years now. He puts it down to heavy substance abuse.

The speculation about the pants might have been entertaining. Enlarged prostate is common among men of Trump’s age; and the need for adult diapers might render him an object of ridicule though it would have nothing to do with his competence.

And I remain skeptical about allegations of dementia. Trump knows what he’s doing and he has a chorus of media stalwarts who echo his message, in his full-time efforts to destroy our democracy and turn us into a single party autocracy.

I agree with your skepticism regarding dementia. And yes, men of a ‘certain age’ do tend to suffer from prostate issues.

Certainly Noel Casler, who claims to have worked with him on the Celebrity Apprentice argues against dementia.

Aegis Ashore site in Poland

Branding in the defense establishment: using “Aegis” because of the US Aegis class of ships, which were designed to carry the (then) advanced 3-D radar system with real-time missile control.

Then when TMD (theater missile defense) became the hot things, the Aegis program jumped on it and positioned themselves as the answer.

Then, as we see from that tweet, the idea was to put updated versions of the combined system onto other things, even land.

The USN’s Aegis program is probably more a marketing success than a war-story success, though the system did prove useful in shooting down things.

Including civilian jumbo jets: Iran Air Flight 655

The Wikipedia entry for the Aegis combat system is a hoot:

The Aegis Combat System is an American integrated naval weapons system developed by the Missile and Surface Radar Division of RCA, and now produced by Lockheed Martin. It uses powerful computer and radar technology to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets.

Yeah… no. Aegis started out, like other USN systems of the time, with the very archaic AN/UYK-7

In recent times the computer system onboard has been upgraded, yes, but any embedded real-time computer system takes years to test and then deploy, and they become antiquated.

But heh, Lockheed marketing is top notch. (I wonder how often they try to edit the Wikipedia pages on their systems?)

There’s been a major train disaster in Sindh Province, Pakistan:

At least 40 people have been killed and more than 120 injured after a train collision near the southern Pakistani town of Dharki, officials say, with rescue work still under way to find survivors trapped in the debris.

The collision took place early on Monday morning near the town of Dharki, about 440km (273 miles) north of Pakistan’s largest city of Karachi, officials say.

Senior Daharki police officer Umar Tufail said 40 people were killed.

The death toll was likely to rise as rescuers struggled to reach people trapped in several mangled compartments strewn across the tracks.

U.S. Army releases details of its fiscal year 2022 budget proposal

A couple of items caught my eye:

The Army will also plan to hire or realign 900 civilians to support the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response Prevention program, other violence prevention, holistic health and fitness, and civilian talent management initiatives, Chamberlain said.

The fiscal 2022 request will also increase funding for child care by expanding access to the Army Fee Assistance Program to attract and retain high-quality child care providers.

Repugs will go apeshit. Woe is to us! They’ve gone soft! Emasculated!
The subtext, of course, is “Grab your AR and your snack pack and head into the streets to kill the libs. You have nothing to fear from the former US Army.”
Thanks to Ted Cruz et al and the 1-6 rioters, the decades-old notion that the military and police would automatically take the right-wing side in a conflict is well and truly dead.

I wonder if Putin, Hawley, Cruz and the other insurrection planners apparently believe that their pawns will tolerate massive casualties in open combat. This seems an odd expectation to have of people whose cowardice is proverbial all over the world (“red neck, yellow belly”). Maybe they think the dupes will simply not believe reports of drone-incinerated militias and slaughtered pickup convoys. “Fake news.” This subculture has taken the ability to deny the evidence of one’s own eyes to its greatest extreme in history. Maybe that’s what the traitors and their bosses are counting on, and what they have been preparing the ground for during these many years of non-stop anti-press propaganda.

In 1972, an IC commuter train in Chicago ran into a train stopped at a station and 45 passengers died. I was planning on getting into work early that morning and aiming for one of these earlier trains but missed it by a few minutes and was on the next train that arrived at the station. We stopped for a long time, without a word from anyone, and then were told we had to exit and find alternative transportation to get into the Loop. No one told us what happened but when we exited our train we could see the wreckage. A co-worker who was on a later train that originated in Indiana walked several miles to reach the office, because none of the passengers on her train were familiar with local transportation and so they all walked together to reach their destination.

That’s true for ones and twos. “That pretty pool cleaner girl was shot down like a dog just for breakin’ a window! Never forget!”

Large numbers of martyrs would be a different story. Overheard at a militia roadblock:

“You know, Clem, them 600 guys who went to take out Vandenburg ain’t been heard from in a while. It’s makin’ me nervous.”
“WHAT! Trust the plan! They’re just takin’ inventory and getting ready for the big land auction in a few days.”
“You don’t think that maybe that was them we seen being bulldozed into that trench in the video?”
“Get a grip, man. That video was from some Euro satellite. Fake science, fake news. Or maybe those were libs and pedophiles they sorted out from the survivors soon as they surrendered. Or could have been a bunch of burned pork for all we could see.”

Looking for a new tax haven? This is an obvious challenge to Elon Musk, whom I expect to up the ante.

It might be like the super-heated rivalry for the land speed record in the 1930s. This pitted various wealthy Britons, especially John Cobb and Malcolm Campbell, against each other in setting the land and water speed records. Cobb was killed in an attempt on the water speed record in 1950, and Campbell died of a stroke at age 63 in 1948, but they pushed the records to unbelievable extremes in the meantime.
Modern car enthusiasts just flat-out do not believe the records these guys set. Cobb’s Railton-Mobil Special reached 403 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats on September 16, 1947. Yes, 1947.

I will say that Georgia seems to have a lot of places to go now that weren’t available a couple months ago. My son and I had to make an appointment with one of the mass vaccination sites back in April because there was nothing available at the time. My own doctor didn’t have access to any vaccines for her practice at the time. Now we have sites at grocery stores and pharmacy locations all over the place. Including a big number of rural and urban locations. But we are still lagging in getting care to people who are home bound, like low income seniors, people with disabilities, etc. Some churches were helping with this by taking vaccines to the people, but it’s slow going. Then of course we have a fair number of people who “don’t believe in vaccines”, who have total amnesia about having to be vaccinated themselves, along with their kids to attend school, be deployed in the military or for travel purposes. That last bunch can’t be reached, they’re the ones who show up to harass the school boards to drop any covid related precautions, wear stupid anti vax tshirts everywhere, etc. Those are the same people who are why we can’t have nice things in this state.

Putin just wants chaos and fighting. The defining event of his life was the breakup of the Soviet Union, and as revenge, wants and expects the US to break up the same way. Thus all the crazy-ass Calexit and Texit nonsense on Facebook, sponsored by your buddies in Sankt Peterburg.

I don’t think Hawley or Cruz think there would actually be fighting. This is just the crassest pandering by opportunistic sociopaths without any regard for what could happen, and each one thinks he can be the next King of the Pig People by using it.

He’s not their savior. He’s their tool to achieve End Times. You need someone to so completely fuck things up and bring about Armageddon, that it would take someone like Trump to do it. And Trump’s Middle East policy was the lynchpin. Make Iran a big threat, undo the JCPOA, and the rest of the region arms up because of the Iranian nuclear threat.

One convincing argument I’ve heard for why (at least) Manchin refuses to support HR1, but says he would support HR4 (the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act), is this:

HR1 “… addresses campaign finance, including by expanding the prohibition on campaign spending by foreign nationals, requiring additional disclosure of campaign-related fundraising and spending, requiring additional disclaimers regarding certain political advertising, and establishing an alternative campaign funding system for certain federal offices.”

HR4 does not.

It still boggles my mind how the so-called Christians have latched onto Donald Trump as their savior. I am struggling to think of a more un-Christlike man in the world today, but because he paid lip service to the pulpit pimps and promoted their agenda, all of a sudden, he’s literally Jesus.

I continue to put my faith in the dread Darth Cheney and his minions, to be a pack of utterly self-interested, rapacious swine. If they think the Q Party is going down, it’s going down.

Putin just wants chaos and fighting. The defining event of his life was the breakup of the Soviet Union, and as revenge, wants and expects the US to break up the same way.

He knows that a divisive USA is an ineffective USA that will not be able to interfere in his agenda in any meaningful way.

There are discussions on FB and other places that Trump could win a Representative’s Seat in Florida and go on to be elected Speaker of the House after the GOP gerrymanders itself back into power for 2022/24.

Even the though of that is enough to make one cringe.

They are working on a quasi legal steal of the election, in which millions of Black votes will be nullified by state officials due to “voter fraud” so that they can award their electors to Trump, or simply refuse to certify any slate of electors and throw it to the House, where the GOP will likely control the majority of state delegations (each state gets only one vote when electing the President).

That was their plan in 2024 but it fell short because of a record Democratic turnout and even worse (for the GOP) a handful of GOP state election officials who still had some sense of fairness and a few shreds of decency about them.

They are making every effort to avoid a repeat of that in 2024.

Spokane police investigated a woman’s miscarriage as suspected mistreatment of a child, but is it a crime?

In March, a woman miscarried in a Spokane hotel. Police investigated. They searched her room, told her they’d meet her at the hospital and found it suspicious when she did not show up. They filed a search warrant in hopes of finding her.

Considering the fetus her dependent, officers suspected that the woman could be guilty of criminal mistreatment of a child if she did not call 911 soon enough to potentially save her pregnancy, according to a warrant filed at the time.

It was designed that way intentionally, and for the same detrimental reasons: Preventing complete abuse of power by the majority by ensuring that the minority was overrepresented in the Senate (or in selecting the President, as in this case). At the time, the Founding Fathers set up this system as a compromise to America’s wealthy elite, who wanted to have all the power and complained very loudly about their lack of representation.

I was typing this out, and originally I wrote something that made the origins of our Senate and the land-representation systems in our election laws seem like they were a virtuous choice by our Founding Fathers. That’s how deep our cultural admiration for those iconic men goes: I had to literally stop and remind myself of what I had been taught in history class about why the Senate exists, and that it was profoundly about protecting the power (and feelings) of old rich white men, which is pretty much the same argument being applied against ending the filibuster today.

I was on a Metra train from the Homewood station to the Loop that morning. We spent hours waiting.

It’s another case for where the religious fascists and Trumpist autocracy coincide and align.

Whose tool? Among the “rank and file” DT supporters, he is spoken of as a savior. Maybe the pastors and politicians who support him don’t believe that, but they are vastly outnumbered.

I was a NJ Transit commuter for about 20 years and have been on trains that collided with motor vehicles that were on tracks, been on trains delayed by trespasser incidents or derailments, and just missed being on a train or in Hoboken Terminal when a train failed to stop ahead of the bumper and crashed into the terminal killing 1 person and injuring a bunch more.

I do not miss not having to commute thanks to a job that has made telecommuting even easier thanks to office closure/consolidations.

NJ Transit now has PTC installed at long last, and that should reduce chances for some of those kinds of accidents, but we’ll continue to see motor vehicle strikes or trespasser incidents because some people will try crossing tracks regardless of the safety.

say manchin does it and senate flips
the house is still blue until 2023

the R’s dont need manchin for anything they want to do - he’s got zero power and influence now
so what do they give him? what can they offer? nope, there’s nothing, not even a good committee, (and he just gave up a good one)

when his term is up watch WV elect a ‘real’ republican
they wont need him and he’s made himself someone they can no longer trust

So being a zillionaire qualifies him to be an astronaut? Okay then. Hope he is safe up there. I expect Elon Musk to get involved in the billionaires in space race very soon.

We haven’t had the requirement that an astronaut be able to perform mental chess while being spun in a centrifuge after eating a spaghetti dinner in a long time. If we’re going to privatize space travel, then anyone who thinks they can survive it, especially if they own it will be able to go. And I’m jealous.

If I had his money, you bet I would do it. And the hostility towards people breaking this barrier is baffling to me.

re: #123 Dangerman

bannon is loony
manchin’s been in politics 30+ years - he understands

say manchin does it and senate flips
the house is still blue until 2023

the R’s dont need manchin for anything they want to do - he’s got zero power and influence now
so what do they give him? what can they offer? nope, there’s nothing, not even a good committee, (and he just gave up a good one)

when his term is up watch WV elect a ‘real’ republican
they wont need him and he’s made himself someone they can no longer trust

and he’d do all this before his (likely) last election?
(he’s got a lot of money, he doesn’t need this job)

yeah it ‘could’ happen the same way trump becomes a congressman and R’s immediately impeach biden and harris and instantly ‘becomes’ president
(oh wait, 67 votes)

Unfortunately, there is precedent for Senators switching parties — Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell of Colorado switched to the Republican party, and got re-elected (as a Republican). I don’t remember if control of the Senate went with it then.

In my experience when someone calls anything that is not a cancelled project or event “cancelling,” it signals that they’re gone from propaganda. No one who says someone is being “cancelled” seems to be capable of reason. Once they get into pretending that perpetrators are victims, it’s not easy to turn them around.

Apparently it does…

“No one entered or even attempted to enter the Brooks’ house. That allegation is completely untrue. A process server lawfully served the papers on Mo Brooks’ wife, as the federal rules allow,” Andonian said.

“This was after her initial efforts to avoid service. Mo Brooks has no one but himself to blame for the fact that it came to this,” Andonian continued. “We asked him to waive service, we offered to meet him at a place of his choosing. Instead of working things out like a civilized person, he engaged in a juvenile game of Twitter trolling over the past few days and continued to evade service. He demanded that we serve him. We did just that. The important thing is the complaint has been served and Mo Brooks can now be held accountable for his role in inciting the deadly insurrection at the Capitol.”
