Absolutely illegal. There is nothing in any existing policy that would include such requirements. Insurance companies include all types of weasel words to escape payouts as is; but this certainly hasn’t been their radar.

OK, so I want to talk about that $600K donation that Jeff Green made to Equality Utah. I have to admit I am terribly biased because I’ve known the head of Equality Utah since he was a student of my ex at the end of the ’00s.
First of all, Green is already on record as having said he is going to give away 90 percent of his wealth by his death, before he announced he was resigning his membership in the church formerly known as Mormon.
Second, you just can’t throw money around willy nilly. The organization has to be able to handle it. Equality Utah has had one donation larger than the $600K donation in its past. In any case, $600K is as much as the org took in for the entirety of 2019.
Third, you can’t downplay how significant Green’s actions are. People resign all the time; they aren’t usually billionaires and don’t usually send out public letters and take 11 others with them.
Fourth, the church formerly known as Mormon needs this challenge. I have lived in Mormon country for 28 years. Some of the teachings of the Mormon church are damaging as hell. Bishops asking underage kids from age 11 on up very intrusive questions about sexuality, the way the org treats LGBTQIA members…it’s unpleasant.
So much more I could go on about, but seriously, this us a good and important thing to have happened.

There are thousands of charities or similar organizations like Project Hope, American American Kidney Fund, Environmental Defense Fund, ACLU, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, ASPCA, etc that routinely beg for support and I have no doubt that several of these are beneficiaries of his generosity.

It’s also worth considering that Green is a billionaire because of the assets he holds. There likely aren’t many billionaires who are liquid. Most of his assets/wealth is likely tied up in the Trade Desk, which is a publicly traded company. So he can’t just liquidate his assets (as an officer of the company he has to hold a certain amount of stock; and he has a fiduciary duty to shareholders and liquidating would likely cause the stock price to drop meaning a breach of his duties - plus he’d have to report any transaction before doing it).
Someone that wealthy giving away their wealth is an incredibly complicated process. This is likely the first step, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there more donations to Equality Utah in the future.

A faint red line indicates that I have Covid. (thank god I’m not pregnant).
I’m so sorry. I’m hoping and praying it’s very mild. I was so worried about you last time.
Two weeks from now I think there is going to be a Covid explosion that is epic and the unvaxxed will overwhelm the hospitals. It is important for the WH to set expectations about what is to come and why. I don’t think lecturing, screaming and reasoning with a lot of these

Chyron across MSNBC screen this morning with Andrea Mitchell screams “EMPTY SHELVES” literally right after President Biden said the shelves are all stocked at 90% and pre-pandemic they were at 91%. What a misleading headline. MSM will not give him a break.

Bald Faced lie….I, nor anyone I know, have experienced bare shelves/evidence of a “supply chain crisis since this rumor started. This is GOP propaganda and the American people know it. The shelves are stocked/gas is going down. Inflation due to price gouging. https://t.co/6JSTPo0pdq— J Blue (@daniel67015345) December 22, 2021

“…Lastly, Joe Biden isn’t the national Dad and he isn’t the boss of America. He is the President of the United States and is as powerless as the rest of us to stop bad judgement in millions of people who are risking their lives for as stupid a reason as there has ever been”

Oh well. How’s things otherwise?

Thanks. I’m going to be OK. I tend to sleep a lot when I get sick and that’s my plan. I have food to eat and dogs to keep my company. It feels much milder than last time. my sleep cycle will be wonky so I may be keeping the hours of Sir Mouse.

I pointed out on Daily Kos that 600k is only like 88 bucks to someone with 5 billion net worth. Of course I got jumped on because how dare I disparage somebody giving money away. Total conflating two different things.
I understand that, but my point is that you just can’t fling money around willy nilly, ESPECIALLY considering the tax implications of such gifts. It may be only $88 to Green, but to Troy Williams it’s as much as Equality Utah took in for the whole of 2019. And Green is just getting started.
If you or your business are subject to capacity-limiting restrictions, you will be able to apply for the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit and the Local Lockdown Program. For more on the expansion of these support measures, click here: https://t.co/DJv9T3Xgr1

Again, I get all that, I just pointed out to people what money is to billionaires.

I don’t know what it says about our country that the guy who ordered an attack on the US Capitol gets to hold a press conference from his private club on the one year anniversary of that attack but it ain’t good.

WHY DO YOU OWN THAT DANGEROUS WEAPON?
re: #119 The Pie Overlord!
how on earth did you do that?
I’ve never even come close to cutting myself with my lame. Nearby entities, perhaps…

The Caesarea area is one of the most used areas by amateur SCUBA clubs in the Israeli Med. There are dive shops right on the breakwater. Easy stuff to miss, especially because the bottom keeps changing.

Having worked in restaurants and delis a lot when I was young, I still have fantasy nightmares about slicing the tips of my fingers off on the meat/cheese-cutting machine. That never happened, but I cut my fingers a few times with regular knives during customer blitzes. Rookie mistakes.
re: #122 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))
INORITE? I’m having daytime nightmares about chasing after my fingers as they roll across the kitchen floor.
((shudder))
One thing about this economy on a personal level: my son could come home from college for break and slide back into his job at Target effortlessly (they also make the system work that way; he said the company keeps employees like him on as potential “continuing associates” for six months should they decide to come back and didn’t leave under questionable circumstances). Anyway, they needed him and other returning college-aged kids at this busy time.

Same here, last night cutting strawberries. I was a bit too aggressive and manage to slice the tip of my left-hand middle finger. No blood on the berries but blood on the counter and floor.
