Russia is accusing Ukraine of holding back wheat.

What a useless country: they cannot hold off an invasion force and still keep up wheat shipments.

They do not deserve to exist as a nation!

Midterms may get interesting here in NY.

In his revised New York state congressional maps — the final version of which was released 12:17 a.m. Saturday — Special Master Jonathan Cervas tossed aside Democratic gerrymandering to create a slew of intriguing new districts, some of which could fracture the established political landscape.

In Manhattan, the new 12th district will pit the East Side’s Rep. Carolyn Maloney against the West Side’s Rep. Jerry Nadler. The two liberal warhorses have been in Congress three decades.

A new 10th district covering lower Manhattan and a slice of Brooklyn — suddenly without an incumbent — may create an opening for former Mayor de Blasio, who threw his hat into the ring on Friday. He faces a strong progressive challenge from Mondaire Jones.

The map also created no fewer than eight competitive districts — where neither party received more than 55% of the average vote in the 2016 and 2020 Presidential elections.

Absolutely disgusting. The GOP is destroying this nation and we will not recover from their onslaught. Republican states have generally succeeded in their gerrymandering. If all states had been forced to set up non-partisan districts to allow competition, this might have been fair. But that is not what we are facing — and the contemporary GOP is pure evil.

At this point, I think “.01% of bitcoin holders hold 27% of all bitcoin” should be included in every single article that’s ever written about it. To me, it has to be the starting point for any discussion about crypto. Bitcoin is not populist. It is feudal.

People were told not to trust national governments or governmental organizations to manage their currencies.

So how does that make anonymous bodies of investors more trustworthy?

Wait! You mean that Andrew Sullivan? The immigrant who wants to limit immigration now that he is here?

Writing for New York magazine, Sullivan expressed concern that high levels of immigration to the United States could drive “white anxiety” by causing white Americans to be “increasingly troubled by the pace of change” since they were never formally asked whether they wanted such a demographic shift. Sullivan has advocated for tighter immigration controls on asylum and overall lower levels of immigration. He has criticized Democrats for what he perceived as their unwillingness to implement such controls.

I always assumed that this was the reason he was a fan of Barack Obama. And why he became a Republican afterwards.

Sullivan was barred for many years from applying for United States citizenship because of his HIV-positive status. Following the statutory and administrative repeals of the HIV immigration ban in 2008 and 2009, respectively, he announced his intention to begin the process of becoming a permanent resident and citizen. On The Chris Matthews Show on 16 April 2011, Sullivan confirmed that he had become a permanent resident, showing his green card. On 1 December 2016, Sullivan became a naturalised US citizen.

Limit immigration only of “those” people, not whites from the British isles or Nordic nations.

I had become a fan of his after he turned against the Iraq adventure, though I was troubled by his support of the Bell Curve. It wasn’t until 2016 that I really turned against him because of his over-the-top hatred of Hillary, though his monomaniacal focus on Palin concerning the birth of her son Trig should have been a warning that there was something wrong with him.

(Should include most of you)

I have been, quite unsuccessfully, trying to find the recommendation that Nines09 made some time back on a female singer. (So I can dig up more of her music.)

Iirc, she was local to the Eastern Pa area. The recommended clip was of her ?birthday?, the celebration was at a local venue and her mother was there. She was white with a vocal range ?similar to Beth Hart’s?.

Also, a thank you for all the recommendations on music. I do my best to listen to them. At least until the massive number of tabs open on my browsers causes my pc to crash and I have to start over.

As they used to say back in the day in Pitzburk “Yinz lerned me good!”

He was a temporary Obama fan because Obama promised to change immigration rules so being HIV-positive didn’t get people refused entry — Sullivan had been in the US (with a green card) for decades, but since his diagnosis he could no longer visit his family in the UK.

randomly listening to Radio Canale 7. It’s Wilson Pickett. I wonder why kind of traditional soul/blues music is universal in a way that almost no other music is. I’m guessing the beat is just universally seductive.

Interesting note at the end of that article:

Absolutely disgusting. The GOP is destroying this nation and we will not recover from their onslaught. Republican states have generally succeeded in their gerrymandering. If all states had been forced to set up non-partisan districts to allow competition, this might have been fair. But that is not what we are facing — and the contemporary GOP is pure evil.

Californians forced this issue a while back, by referendum. We now have non-gerrymandered districts, and we’re still one of the bluest of states.

A guy I go to Church with requires his 5’5 wife to maintain a weight of around 130lbs. If she goes over, he blocks her access to the bank accounts, which are conveniently all in his name.

I have told her that is abusive behavior but she wants to stay with him for the sake of their three kids (she claims).

Texas judge arrested, charged with cattle theft and organized crime

MENTONE, Texas — A Special Ranger with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association arrested Loving County Judge Skeet Lee Jones on Friday. Jones was charged with theft of livestock and engaging in organized crime.

Loving is the least populous of Texas’s 12,622 counties (Ok, it’s just 254 but it’s easy to lose count.) Population was 64 in the 2020 census. The county seat, Mentone, has a population of 22. The county office is the only 2 story building in town, and does not have a jail cell, which is why Judge Skeet Lee was jailed in neighboring Winkler County.

My own county, Palo Pinto, does not have a county seat in an incorporated town. The courthouse complex basically stands by itself out in the middle of nowhere. With the associated offices (lawyers, bail bonds etc.) a pawn ship and and c-store it is defined as a “census designated place” by the census bureau.
