Those laws already exist, but they’re pointless if a person is not diagnosed, that diagnosis not communicated to the FBI, and the “red flag” not placed in the National Instant Criminal Search Database that federally licensed gun shops use to verify if a person is cool to purchase a gun.
And since the only ways a person can be diagnosed are either to voluntarily seek treatment or be involuntarily committed for treatment, the weak link remains that you have to actually be diagnosed with a mental illness in order to be denied the ability to purchase a firearm for being mentally ill.

This did it because it had worked in 2008 and they knew it would work again 8 years later. I still remember being told as early as the summer of ‘07 that the “Clinton Campaign Machine” was gonna steamroll Obama and the primaries were a formality before she was crowned at the convention. So from mid-‘07 all the way up to the primaries, the media on both sides of the aisle did everything they could to play Obama up as the “young, charismatic, progressive candidate.”
And then when he won the nomination, they had to rush to suddenly prop up the “rock-ribbed Republican” McCain overnight as the “Maverick of the Senate” who had a long history of going against the party with “moderate” beliefs while they astroturfed the “PUMAs” to try to split the party by declaring that the only way Obama could win is if he put Hillary on the ticket at his VP.
Then came 2016 and, wouldn’t you know it, they managed to once again undermine Hillary by portraying the competition as the true “progressive” in the race versus the old, stale “Clinton Dynasty.”

Suddenly the Repubs who’d been slobbering all over the UPD backed up and began trying to play the victims by insisting they’d been “lied to.”
Now it’s Sunday and they’re in their typical “We need to wait for the investigation” stance which they usually only take when the cops have been caught in a lie but are muscling their way into being portrayed as the “victims.” Which means more than a few have probably gotten some very slimy calls from cop union presidents telling them that endorsements can be pulled and it’s still an awful long way to November…
