After string of Supreme Court setbacks, Democrats wonder whether Biden White House is capable of urgency moment demands - CNNPolitics
More than a week after the abortion decision, top Biden aides are still wrangling over releasing new actions in response, despite the draft decision leaking six weeks earlier.
White House counsel Dana Remus had assured senior aides the Supreme Court wouldn’t rule on abortion that day. A White House press aide assigned to the issue was walking to get coffee when the alert hit.

I don’t think there is anything they can do. Nothing will get through Congress to codify access. Anything done via EO will be spun into the next coming of King George III. And if they keep speaking about it by the time November rolls around the Democrats will solely be the party of baby killers via 3rd trimester baby dismemberment. This will all be done through a conservative media that doesn’t care about truth and bullhorned by a mainstream media thirsting for as much “fairness” as they can swallow. And in the end, it’s not a long lasting winning argument for our side no matter what anybody says. Almost everything will be more important when it comes down to it.
They have to play a longer, political game. Every time I think the administration isn’t doing what I think they should I always remember that A) we don’t see everything and B) there are people much smarter and with much more information at hand than I am.

I think most people wanted to remain hopeful that the leaked information was not true. Sadly it was.
The Biden Administration up until now has not realized they are dealing with 100% fascists. Biden’s long-time D.C. experience has consisted of decades of dealing with the back and forth between 2 major power players and back-dealing reaching a consensus and each being to claim some sort of victory in the process. Biden, IMO, has personally invested his trust in personal relationships with “more honest’ Republicans who no longer exist, or never existed in the first place. Those Republicans are gone. They don’t exist anymore. They never existed, they are now retired and/or dead, or they had bamboozled their way through their entire political career and only now, when a corrupt fascist SCOTUS is entrenched, do they feel comfortable enough to finally pull the masks off.
Biden’s evidently been playing a long quiet game but at this point in time fascists are racking up impressive gains with no real political blowback. It seems the long game is supposed to include upcoming elections but with corrupt Republican voting precincts and legislatures, we are in deep trouble. And if a 2025 Republican President is in the White House, we can expect blanket Pardons for everyone who committed Treason on 1/6 and the fascist takeover will be cemented.

I have more than my share of evil relatives, though two less since my brother Judas and ex-wife Jezebel passed on to somewhere or other a couple of years ago. One dire prediction the extended clan made about me was that I would die young. Since I just turned 73, even the ones I haven’t outlived already have to admit that is wrong. They also thought I would be on welfare my whole life. I may yet lose everything but things are pretty solid right now. Since they can’t bash me for being poor, they fell back on a scurrilous claim that I made my money running guns to the Mexican cartels. Their evidence was that I knew about guns and could speak Spanish. That’s it. It backfired on them, though, since they are now terrified that I will consign them to a gruesome cartel fate if they piss me off.

The last of the made men in my family passed away back in 1988 and he was pretty old by that time. He personally knew Jack Dragna, as did my father who was good friends with Jack’s son, Frank Dragna.
As an aside, my dad - oddly enough - was also on good terms with two mobsters some Lizards here might recognize:
Tony Spilotro and Frank Rosenthal.
As to how he knew those two….I don’t know. And probably better to say, I don’t think I really want to know.

Timothy Brian Cole (July 1, 1960 - December 2, 1999) was an African American military veteran and a Texas Tech University student wrongfully convicted of raping a fellow student in 1985.
Cole attended two years of college followed by two years of service in the U.S. Army. After his Army service, he returned to college at Texas Tech in Lubbock. Cole died after serving 14 years in prison, but was posthumously pardoned.
Tim was not executed but he died of athsma in prison in 1999. He had been offered early release but refused it because it required an admission of guilt.

Yes, but somehow the story is “Biden had nothing to say the day the decision came down.”
I very much agree with you. The pushed narrative certainly does not match my understanding of the truth either.
Back in 2021, tfg’s minions, like Pompeo, were laughing that they had set so many fires the Biden administration was going to be very busy putting them out.
As I am sure that you and many other lizards remember, on June 24th, Biden was flying to Europe where he was going to try and rebuild NATO and the G-7 after tfg and Putin’s efforts to destroy them. Several of the fires that tfg and his thugs set for our country.
He appears to have been successful there, at least until Oct-Nov when everyone will get an inkling of how the US election winds are going to blow.

re: #59 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie
Yep, sometimes smiling, but saying nothing can communicate quite a lot. :)
Apropos to nothing…
Wasn’t there a guy some years ago, who posted some stupid story about how he ripped off a cartel?
He had posted it as a tall tale. But then posted that he had gotten word that a cartel had noticed that twitter story and, iirc, went silent.
Evolution:
BA.4/5 has a growth advantage over BA.2 similar to the growth advantage of BA.2 over BA.1.
That would give it an R0 of 18.6 🤯
This is similar to measles, which was until now was our most infectious viral disease https://t.co/dIyaQtk7hd— Jess ™️ (@MeetJess) July 5, 2022
How transmissible are BA.4/5?
We measure how contagious a disease is by the basic reproduction number (R0). This is the average number of people an initial case infects in a population with no immunity (from vaccines or previous infection).
New mutations give the virus an advantage if they can increase transmissibility:
the original Wuhan strain has an R0 of 3.3
Delta has an R0 of 5.1
Omicron BA.1 has an R0 of 9.5
BA.2, which is the dominant subvariant in Australia at the moment, is 1.4 times more transmissible than BA.1, and so has an R0 of about 13.3
a pre-print publication from South Africa suggests BA.4/5 has a growth advantage over BA.2 similar to the growth advantage of BA.2 over BA.1. That would give it an R0 of 18.6.
This is similar to measles, which was until now was our most infectious viral disease.

Thread….
That’s a horrifying thread.
I wish I hadn’t heard of these “schizowave” fascists that are at least pretending to be delusional. The shooter wasn’t pretending.
Schizowave is a derivative aesthetic of Fashwave that is associated with beliefs into higher races and deities.
Schizowave is amalgamation of various conspiracy “theories” ranging from Nordic aliens to hollow earth civilizations. Glorification of philosophers such as Jonathan Bowden.
A federal judge on Tuesday threw out a host of actions by the Trump administration to roll back protections for endangered or threatened species, a year after the Biden administration said it was moving to strengthen such species protections.U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar in Northern California eliminated the Trump-era rules even as two wildlife agencies under President Joe Biden are reviewing or rescinding the regulations. The decision restores a range of protections under the Endangered Species Act — including some that date to the 1970s — while the reviews are completed. Environmental groups hailed the decision, which they said sped up needed protections and critical habitat designations for threatened species, including salmon in the Pacific Northwest.
Tigar’s ruling “spoke for species desperately in need of comprehensive federal protections without compromise,” said Kristen Boyles, an attorney for the environmental group Earthjustice. “Threatened and endangered species do not have the luxury of waiting under rules that do not protect them.”

BREAKING: The man accused of attacking a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, a prosecutor says.
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart promised that dozens more charges would be sought. https://t.co/2F3jBwQw09— The Associated Press (@AP) July 5, 2022
Highland Park Police say Robert Crimo preplanned the attack. Rifle was purchased legally in Illinois by Crimo. Crimo was dressed in women’s clothing during the attack. He fired more than 70 rounds. Walked to his mothers home after the attack. Then took his mothers vehicle.

A second rifle was found in the vehicle with Robert Crimo. He also purchased that gun. No indications anyone else was involved police say.

And what is the threshold beyond which—with a few exceptions, I’m sure—a person’s identity becomes so intertwined with personal wealth that they are forever irredeemable greedy assholes and therefore useless as observers of economic phenomena?
Personally, I’m terrible with money and with math. But it doesn’t seem controversial to me that if hourly pay had kept pace with corporate profits and executive pay, we would not have the spike in inflation (I’m not saying we could have avoided it entirely due to the pandemic). But the government would maybe have been less likely to have to turn to stimulus; in other words, the fast dump of cash that conservatives are saying is the sole cause of our woes.

Psychiatric Genocide: Nazi Attempts to Eradicate Schizophrenia (Schizophrenia Bulletin via NIH, September 16, 2009)
A review of Nazi documentation to try to estimate the number of psychiatric patients forcibly steriised or murdered as “life unworthy of life.” They note that the Nazis didn’t think that one up, it was first proposed by a German psychiatrist in 1920, and gained widespread (but not complete) acceptance when the Great Depression rolled over Germany. Some of the psychiatrists originally developing the idea emigrated to the United States before Hitler came to power, then continued spreading it here.

From the GoFundMe account (currently at $1,294,000+ of $500,000 requested).
In the aftermath of the Highland Park, IL shootings on July 4, the North Shore community rallied to help a boy who we knew nothing about. We took him to safety under tragic circumstances, came together to locate his grandparents, and prayed for the safety of his family.
Sadly, I need to share his name…Aiden McCarthy. And he needs more of our help. His parents Irina & Kevin were killed during the July 4 shooting. At two years old, Aiden is left in the unthinkable position; to grow up without his parents.
Aiden will be cared for by his loving family and he will have a long road ahead to heal, find stability, and ultimately navigate life as an orphan. He is surrounded by a community of friends and extended family that will embrace him with love, and any means available to ensure he has everything he needs as he grows.
Asked on Fox News if he’d sign a bill removing the exception for rape from his state’s abortion ban, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves says “there’s a lot of effort … mainly by the Democrats, to try to talk only about the real small, minor number of exceptions that may exist.” pic.twitter.com/rJbSmGPrsa

Why is State Senator Megan Hunt asking you to contact your doctor about where they stand on an abortion ban?
Let’s dig in.— erin, Ph.D (@emfundertaker) July 5, 2022
As of now, abortion remains legal in Nebraska.
Very long thread about the ongoing pressure campaign on the Nebraska Medical Association (taking a stand that they want carve-outs for various things and claiming their members are all for that). The campaign consists of directly asking physicians if they actually support this position, since the NMA was essential in beating back the previous bill in February.
The tactic Sen. Megan Hunt is promoting is to remind physicians who are on the fence or might support it because maybe it might happen is from Prof. Timothy Snyder’s “On Tyranny” lesson one of twenty: Do Not Obey in Advance.
As of now there is no special legislative session nor bill. Republicans in the Unicameral are trying to line up lobbyists to go after doctors or hospitals to see if they would support such a bill, so the people’s response in the state is reminding who physicians work for.
Fascists (and conservatives) are always the minority, so they count on advance compliance to threats.

re: #268 Backwoods_Sleuth
Gov. Reeves can’t give the real reason. If it’s only a small number as he claims, then it shouldn’t be a problem.
The real issue is the conservative belief “hos be lyin’”. If that exception was in the law, the thinking goes then all sorts of women would use rape, incest, or save her life as a lie to get an abortion.
There is also the other conservative issue: “Because we can.” And there is no greater exercise in power than deciding who lives and who dies.

From the tweet: “While much has been made of the Highland Park shooter’s attendance of Trump rallies, more alarming is his presence in online subcultures detached from reality. The shooter inhabited communities focused on conspiracy theories, the paranormal, and deep nihilism.”

It was obvious that the Biden administration was caught totally unprepared for the Roe v Wade decision, despite having more than a month’s warning it was coming. Really not good.
I’m trying not to get too pessimistic, really I am. But this is bad.
Okay, let’s say they were surprised. What could the Executive do if the Judicial overturns “Settled Law”?
They can codify Casey (not Roe), because Casey superseded Roe in 1992, but that Legislation has been continually proposed, passed by the House, but stalled in the Senate because of sixty votes.
Upon which Manchin and Sinema are not willing to to budge.
So, Biden’s fault?

Israel-Arab Air Defense Alliance A Real Possibility Due To Iran Threat
Israel and several Arab nations are “down the road a good bit” toward creating a system to share information about Iranian missile and air defense threats to the region, the most recent former commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) tells The War Zone…
“You’d like to have a common operational picture that everyone can share so that everyone has immediate knowledge of threats, and can take actions to protect themselves and protect others,” Frank McKenzie, the retired Marine general who commanded CENTCOM until April, told The War Zone in an exclusive interview Friday morning. “Nations are open to sharing intelligence, sharing air defense information, and I think it’s a big step forward. We’ve taken some very specific steps there that I can’t share the details [about.]”
…”This program is already operative and has already enabled the successful interception of Iranian attempts to attack Israel and other countries.”…

Shouldn’t he be threatening and berating an airline gate agent?
re: #309 retired cynic
Because the cow doesn’t charge. Sheep and goats have evolved to ram heads, cows not so much.

How do the kids say it these days? “Die mad.”

That should have drawn an immediate objection (no spectral evidence allowed in a court of law, since the conclusion of the Salem Witch Trials).
Dang. I can’t upload my favourite sort of GIF for this sort of thing. (LGF says max 4 M, the file is smaller than that, but rejects it for being larger than 2 M).
I was hoping you’d see that, since I was thinking of you when I read that Tweet.

It’s the right-wing playbook: every time there is a mass shooting divert the discussion to blacks killing each other in Chicago.
It’s blatantly racist but they are now ok with that being out and loud.
Are Trump fans migrating to Truth Social where they no longer have to interact with those who may criticize their views? My Trumpster FB friend has been silent for the past week, after a rant on Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony. Or maybe there isn’t yet a consensus among the fascist networks on what is the most important outrage of the week.

Great archive find by @itsianlynchlmao. It’s a 1948 telegram that ultraconservative newspaper editor William Loeb sent to all of the state & national leaders of the GOP claiming that Truman stole the election. “THE GREATEST THEFT IN HISTORY!” pic.twitter.com/FiA4jVZUp8
— Seth Cotlar (@SethCotlar) July 6, 2022
“THESE BIG CITY DEMOCRATIC BOSSES HAVE BEEN STEALING LOCAL ELECTIONS FOR YEARS WHAT WOULD BE MORE NATURAL THAN FOR THEM TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CLOSE NATIONAL
ELECTION TO STEAL THE PRESIDENCY ITSELF?”
Gotta say, the all caps adds a certain contemporary resonance.— Seth Cotlar (@SethCotlar) July 6, 2022
Oh, here’s another Trump parallel:
Loeb cited ulcers for his medical exemption from service during World War II, allegedly drinking large quantities of alcohol before doctor’s visits to ensure flare-ups.

re: #57 Florida Panhandler
maybe I am naive (very possible) but the long game that you decry is the best known option that Biden has available to him… let me outline why…
1) in the US version of our political democracy, we’ve never reached a point where there hasn’t been two relatively functional political parties. As the J6 commission continues to unfold, the GOP will cease to exist as a rational Democratric oplitical option… either they will win and there will be no need to have any political party, just those in charge and those not; or the converse will be true, the GOP will fall and cease to exist as a viable political power and something else will have to take its place in some form. Biden is playing the long game in trying to salvage some kind of remainder of our current political process because that is who he is. Is he truly the kind of leader will embrace being the force of change to forever alter the US as if he was/is a cauterizing surgeon? I don’t think so, so he’s attempting to save some semblance of our history to allow us to transition to a government system that will be better representative of the majority.
2) there is a very real danger in watching us turn into our enemies, by doing unto our opponents the very same methods that they wish to unleash on us… does it serve us to do so, do we lose ourselves in doing so, even if we feel that we are right to do it to attempt to save what we profess to honor?
3) there’s a helluva lotta time between now and November and just now, we’re seeing the States and the DOJ get off their ass and into the courts. Georgia is moving, will NY follow, Michigan? Nevada? Will the J6 make a criminal finding and will the DOJ act on it?
If these moves get made, do we see subpeonas of all involved? We’re still watching it unfold, some of the cowards are finally owning up to what they saw and heard and in some cases, looked the other way about. Hell, in the next months we could see Congressmen and Senators and SCOTUS justices and their spouses indicted, if not arrested… you think that kind of shit is gonna get memory holed in November? Doesn’t matter how hard the media is wired for the GOP, the brazen attempts to take over the country continue to be riveting TV, headline grabbing clickbait and a rank unveiling of the GOP agenda despite all of the attempts to both sides this bullshit because all the people that are testifying are the GOP themselves.
again, Joe been dealt a menu filled with shitbiurgers and while the media is asking if we all want fries with that, Joe’s ordering an appetizer of trying to let our system do what it does and let it heal itself.
as always, ymmv, but as I see it, if he tries to step outta his lane too soon, our GOP Kangaroo court will kneecap him asap, but convict a few of these fuckers, show how the court is illegitimately given to a traitor, well, then maybe you can talk about some extreme measures when we’ve got 25% of the GOP awaiting trial for treason.
