Here Are a Couple of Great Amazon Prime Day Deals

Great Deals • Views: 21,631

Amazon Prime Day 2022 is still going on, so if you have a need (or a want) for something you should really see if it’s on sale now. There are great deals on things like Amazon Fire tablets, gadgets and computer accessories of all kinds, cookware, appliances, furniture, you name it.

For example, this top-rated SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, currently on sale for 61% below list.

Or this SAMSUNG M8 Series 32-Inch 4K UHD Smart Monitor & Streaming TV (one of which I own myself), on sale for 25% below list (which is $50 cheaper than the deal I got!). I highly recommend this monitor; it’s beautifully designed, very thin, and the 4K image quality is excellent.

Note: if you buy anything from our links to Amazon, we may get a small commission on the sale at no extra charge to you. So it’s a great way to take advantage of their deals and support LGF at the same time.

Given that she was deported for violating the terms of the visa waiver program, I have to wonder if she made this all up. It makes 0 sense, even in today’s environment.

Do you know how she was “violating the visa waiver program”?

By going to Canada to cat sit in exchange for free board.

There are literally photos of Border Patrol on fucking horseback whipping and attacking immigrants.

That someone could somehow think it’s a stretch that this group has members who will openly harass women about abortion in order to keep the country ‘pure’ means that someone hasn’t been paying attention to the news.

Or is in utter denial about how fucked up we are right now when it comes to women’s rights and religion.

A BYU student was paid $500 to prank call his Mormon pro-life mother and try to convince her he got a stripper pregnant.

It didn’t take long to convince her of that part—she didn’t seem to have any issue believing her conservative Mormon son would have sex with strippers.

Instead, she immediately began questioning the imaginary woman in the situation, asking how she could possibly know she was pregnant already which means this woman, this mother, understands it often takes weeks before you know you’re pregnant.

A caption in the TikTok video points out how many states have rules in place that expect a woman to know at or before 4 weeks.

After dwelling on the time-line for a moment, the mother immediately advises her son to tell the woman to get an abortion.

His face realizing his “pro-life” mother was very pro-abortion when it came to anything that actually impacted her…

I like the size of that monitor but I have a dual monitor setup and my other monitor is a big-assed LG OLED TV so I don’t need another “smart” monitor. I’ve been looking at bigger monitors to replace a 27” (1920 x 1080) Dell that I’m using now. I had 29” LG but it was 2560 x 1080 so it was wider than it was tall, a 21:9 aspect ratio. I’m looking at another LG that is 31-1/2” (3840 x 2160) - it’s 16:9 like the Dell. I like that ratio.

So, if you’re distraught about the cancellation of the orange thing’s event in North Carolina, not to worry—no refunds, but you can go see him next month in Wisconsin instead. Just a hop, skip and jump up the road…

The American Freedom Tour did not publicize that the event would no longer take place Friday, but quietly removed it from its website. Tickets for the event initially sold for $9 to $3,955.

The News & Observer requested further information and received a generic response.

“We are very sorry that due to unforeseen circumstances we are rescheduling the American Freedom Tour stop in Greensboro, NC,” an emailed reply stated. “Your ticket may be used at any American Freedom Tour event in America.”

The only event currently scheduled on the organization’s website is on Aug. 20 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Houses can be very reasonably priced when they’re built like a shed, have no walls, ceilings, or insulation, and there’s a camper with a big propane tank trapped in the building.

The location probably isn’t great either.

That, our lifestyle is so shitty that no amount of money spent on intervention can extend life beyond our 70s for most of us, or the money is spent on a small minority of us to keep them alive into their 90s while many go without treatment and die 20-30 years earlier.

I think it’s that the healthcare spending is going to the privileged, while minorities and the poor die in their 50s and 60s pulling the average down.

Thousands of Chinese bank depositors have clashed with police while protesting the freezing of their accounts at local banks in the inland province of Henan.

Media in Hong Kong and elsewhere reported that the depositors gathered on Sunday to demand action from local authorities. The move came after four local banks in the city of Zhengzhou suspended cash withdrawals.

Protestors were shouting for the return of their savings. They clashed with police officers mobilized to remove them. Many people were injured.

A protest of this scale is rare in China.

The four banks have suspended withdrawals since April, citing system maintenance. This prompted some depositors to barge into the banks.

In June, depositors who had visited the city to protest were stopped short by coronavirus restrictions.

Deposits totaling nearly 40 billion yuan, or about 6 billion dollars, are said to be frozen, affecting hundreds of thousands of depositors.

On Monday, financial regulators in Henan announced they will pay back savings of less than 50,000 yuan, or about 7,400 dollars, on behalf of the banks from Friday, in an apparent effort to calm down the protestors.

Bowling Green

Just months after announcing the largest economic development investment in Kentucky’s long history, Governor Andy Beshear announced that the second largest investment wouldn’t be far behind.

Electric vehicle battery manufacturing company, Envision AESC, is bringing their business to the commonwealth.

“Once again, a company that is redefining the automotive industry is betting their future on Kentucky and our workforce,” Beshear said.

In September 2021, Ford Motors announced an electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant that will be built in Hardin County for nearly $6 billion. On Tuesday, the announcement came from Envision AESC that they’d be building their own dedicated EV battery plant in Warren County. It’s another $2 billion in investment and the result of a bipartisan effort from legislators across the state the governor said.

Me to my 18yo tonight: “any plans this evening?”

Son: “I picked up a couple of vinyl albums for a friend who’s into that from Japan and I’m going over to his house to give them to him.”

Me: “what did you get?”

Son: “Yellow Magic Orchestra.”

Me: “Oh, Sakamoto Ryuichi? I have to admit that I know him better from Last Emperor.

Son: “I didn’t know about that he acted, but I’ve been listening to his soundtrack and his piano pieces and he’s amazing.”

Then, after I gave him the sad news that Sakamoto Ryuichi has cancer, I turned him on to his relationship with the comedy duo DownTown. Some really funny stuff.

Yes, so Shinzō Abe should be Abe Shinzō. That’s an accommodation they make to non-Japanese. (Btw, the same is true for all of east Asia, I believe.) Something that irritates me is that Western journalists will add their name to their Twitter in the Japanese syllabary Katakana in the Japanese order: family name then personal name. Except that with the exception of things like town hall documents that you fill out when you live there, no one ever, ever calls you in the Japanese style. They know we are personal name-family name in the West.

Figures. I had someone asking why the fuck they are doing this: My answer was:

Me: Part of it is the warped sense of reality these people have. Part of it is the ends justifies the means mindset, a 10-year old is pocket change in that regard, especially if a POC. A lot of it is ideology.
“X”: What is their goal? I am at a loss to understand what the ends are in this situation.
Me: Them being permanently in power. Like, it has thick veneer, but boils down to power, wealth, influence, status. The hope of getting so much of it that they don’t have to face accountability for their actions or failures to act.
“X”: That is infuriating.

Two years ago, when I started my comedy career, I just wanted to get on stage and make people laugh. Next I thought it would be fun to be the host/MC. Monday, July 18th I’m adding producing to my credits. In addition to hosting, I have asked some of my fav comics, (the ones that make me laugh the hardest) to join me at the Greenwich Village Comedy Club for the 7PM show. It’s a great lineup, if I say so myself.

Looks like I may have to create a twitter account if I want to keep lurking. They’ve basically made it impossible to see more than a handful of tweets on any account if you’re not registered. I really don’t want to do that.

Get an account & lock it down.

Follow who you choose pro & con, and be choosey who gets to follow you.

If you’re following someone & they suddenly go nutso, mute them.

Since May 2009, I’ve followed ~400, and muted ~50.

I’ve found Twitter to be a great news and culture aggregator, sometimes even to articles in publications which I subscribe to.

When you get to the next bar of topics, do the same again.

Megan Fox is asshole signaling.

And Glenn Kessler needs to fact check himself.

In his original article:

As a spot check, we contacted child services agencies in some of Ohio’s most populous cities, including Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo. None of the officials we reached were aware of such a case in their areas.

In his followup (which includes no apology, no recant—in fact, the original headline still stands and the correction is at the bottom of the original article—nice going WaPo)

While reporting this story, the Fact Checker had contacted the Franklin County agency to ask if such a referral had been made. Unlike similar Ohio county agencies we contacted, Franklin County officials did not offer a response.

So, to recap—he reached out to five agencies; 4 (or fewer) responded, and the one that mattered had no response—probably should have mentioned that in the original story, Glenny.

As for editing out the screams of the children, I just don’t know. It would be unimaginably horrible for decent people to hear. I have heard grown men scream in pain and terror when they were shot, and shot at. That is bad enough, but hearing it from children would be orders of magnitude worse. Still I am ready to shove this horror down the NRA’s and its stooges’ collective throats. I would take the mutilated bodies to DC, unwrap them and put them on the Capitol steps for all to see. Quote of the morning:
“Once your faith, sir, persuades you to believe what your intelligence declares to be absurd, beware lest you likewise sacrifice your reason in the conduct of your life. In days gone by, there were people who said to us: “You believe in incomprehensible, contradictory and impossible things because we have commanded you to; now then, commit unjust acts because we likewise order you to do so.” Nothing could be more convincing. Certainly anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices. If you do not use the intelligence with which God endowed your mind to resist believing impossibilities, you will not be able to use the sense of injustice which God planted in your heart to resist a command to do evil. Once a single faculty of your soul has been tyrannized, all the other faculties will submit to the same fate. This has been the cause of all the religious crimes that have flooded the earth.”
— Voltaire “Questions sur les miracles” (1765)
Often paraphrased as: “Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities”

I have no idea why they didn’t go in. I would have assumed that most cops would have. Now I don’t know. If they are afford of assault rifles, we all should be.

re: #150 Belafon

I could have sworn i saw Meagan somewhere.

Most mentions of her describe her as “Megan Fox (not the actress)”—the only background info I could find—truth is, I didn’t look that hard, is that she’s a home-schooling young earth creationist, just so you know.

My guess is that the chief would not allow it for some force protection reason, ie avoiding officer casualties. It would have taken a coordinated effort, though a relatively simple one. One officer could not do it alone. If the boss says no, that effort is impossible.

re: #153 Crush White Nationalism

when you think about what has yet to be covered….

1) coordination between Congress and the WH - The Coup Club, i.e. what did they do and how did they help
2) was there a kill order out not just for Pence but for Dem members of Congress?
3) who handled the coordination logistically between the WH and the militias?
4) who fucking paid for this, because it wasn’t Trump
5) how did the FBI and Homeland fuck this up so badly that every RW nutjob came out of the woodwork and there was nary a peep from the Deep State
6) who co-opted certain elements of the Cap Police to let people in and have reduced staffing, why the fuck was Flynn’s brother in the room when denying military support requested by the VP, Speaker and Majority leader?
7) how in the hell were the media narratives spread about this being a false flag and a riot that got out of hand?
8) why is it that NO ONE from TEAM NORMAL blew the whistle on ALL/ANY of this shit and contact the FBI?

that just comes to mind

re: #67 Hecuba’s daughter

That’s exactly why I created a Twitter account last year.

That’s why I made one. I mostly “like” tweets, and occasionally retweet one. Don’t need to get drawn into snarls.

While reporting this story, the Fact Checker had contacted the Franklin County agency to ask if such a referral had been made. Unlike similar Ohio county agencies we contacted, Franklin County officials did not offer a response.

re: #123 Dangerman

This is the goal
Fear

Sure you can spend all your time and money and reputation defending that you are right

Most people prefer to avoid having to have the fight

And these right wing govs can use taxpayer money to push their religious views. It’s not their money or the churches money (hell churches don’t even fucking pay taxes). So every person in the state gets to pay for religious persecution whether they want to or not.
