I’m a skeptic. Turbines are thirsty.

I am also a skeptic. Conventional four-stroke automotive gasoline engines have thermodynamic efficiencies of around 20-25%. The highest efficiency for any type of internal combustion engine is for large stationary diesels, around 40%. Automotive diesels have efficiencies somewhat lower than that, maybe 30-35% at best.

This engine can’t possibly be five times as efficient as a four-cycle.

I think this is hype and fraud.

There is a lot of excellent technology coming out of Israel. Like any other place, such as the U.S. for example, there can be hype and misrepresentation as well, to make a buck from the unwary.

Some other issues that will have to be dealt with:

IIRC, turbines are also big polluters, and don’t lend themselves very well to tailpipe emissions controls.

Turbines are not particularly responsive to throttle setting inputs. Spool-up and spool-down have very noticeable delays. Ask a Navy pilot just how many seconds before he hits the wire that he puts the throttle to the wall.

Turbines are noisy, and don’t usually like to have mufflers on their exhaust end.

I’m sure there’s more.

In the past when people tried to put turbines in cars the temperature of the exhaust was a big problem. A pedestrian could get burned just walking by the exhaust.
