I updinged this because I think it is time for Lizards to differentiate between the message and the messenger. The message is that there are still loons among us is valid. We would all donwding such loons. The messenger is another matter.

I agree, and I'm starting to find this practice extremely annoying. There's a whole group of reflexive down-dingers on LGF, the most prolific of whom seems to be rob.schmitt, who seem to just read the title of a link and then reflexively down-ding it because they disapprove of the idea.

I've begged these people to stop doing this. Sometimes, the whole point of a link is to help us all to learn about something that we don't like. But my sense is that the rob.schmitt's of LGF aren't reading my comments, or any comments. They may not even be clicking the links. I think they may be using LGF for no other purpose than to spend a tenth of a second updinging or downdinging each link, in order to express their opinions about stuff.

This practice is detrimental to the site. It suppresses our ability to learn about concerning developments that interest many of us. I'm really starting to think that such people ought to have their dinging privileges revoked.

re: #2 Last Mohican

Having been around in this life for a while, I have found that the people who help me he most are the people who disagree with me. It forces me to re-examine what I think. If that re-examination further strengthens my beliefs, then fine, if it shows me where I am wrong, then even better. If I knew it all, I would not have to examine what other people thought, I would already have known it all. St. Pancake was a loon like I knew back in the 60s when I was growing up. So many of these folks think that life is a TV series and that they will be ok in the next episode. Sadly, once you are dead, the chances of coming back are very, very poor. At least several billion to one. Short of flame wars or outright stupidity and racism, I usually do not downding. That is because I do not think the behavior is appropriate.

I have to wonder why people down dinged this post. I mean, are they the folk who support anti-Israel bias in the US media? Do they think it's okay for the ISM to use a tragic death as a propaganda tool to further demonize Israel and the Jews who live there?
