This is my favorite line from the American Thinker [sic] soccer article: "What's also suspect is the very casual, nothing-to-see-here tone of the Time article." The more things seem normal, the more we should suspect a conspiracy to hide the truth.

American Thinker is, in my opinion, the single most toxic site in the wingnutsphere. Not only is it hardcore nirther to rival WND, there is no Obama theory too crazy or disgusting for them to promote.

They've been pushing the "Obama was sexually abused" meme since before the election. In some places they refer to this alleged sexual abuse as an 'affair', (ghey, natch) despite the fact that Obama would have been 9 years old.

The original claim was that Obama was sexually abused by his grandfather. Sometimes they claim he was sexually abused by Frank Marshall Davis, -- and there are also posts there alleging that he was fathered by either his grandfather or Davis.
So, not only do they allege that Obama was subjected to sexual abuse but also incest, and they use the word 'affair' to imply that Obama consented.

This is not even to touch upon the commenters there. I'm certain there's crossover with HotAir commenters, Freepers, and more, but AT is to my mind unmatched when it comes to toxicity for a 'mainstream' blog on the right.
You don't even want to know the sorts of things they allege about Obama's mother.

This kind of psychoanalysis was nuts when they did it to Bush and Clinton and just as crazy here. In my mind it's unethical for a doctor to make a public diagnosis.

All the good ethical doctors I know take a long personal history before they give a private diagnosis. The author is obviously a hack or he'd realize what he's saying is nonsense.

Long range psychoanalysis is best left to the armchair pop psychologists. Heaven knows there are enough of them.

If the piece went a little further, it could be read as satire.

Unfortunately, it's just plain demented.

Oh. My. God. I've accidentally stumbled across many of the extreme wingnut sites and thought I'd heard all the conspiracy theories, but I've never been to the AT site nor have I heard any of these stories until today. How sick does someone have to be to dream up that kind of garbage?

It's like... like... *shudder* One time I left a full plastic garbage can outside for a few days during the summer. When I finally remembered it, I went to grab it and heard an odd noise coming from inside. I pulled up the lid and was hit with a horrible stench—everything was rotten and teeming with maggots (that was the noise, them slithering around *gag*). I screamed, slammed the lid back down, and almost tossed my cookies. That's what I think it might look like if you could see inside their heads.

*grabs brain bleach & wire scrubber and heads for scalding hot shower*

As someone who actually DOES suffer from Asperger's, I find this man's faux diagnosis of it offensive.
