You want to know a good indicator that racism is going away? When people begin to 1) know who Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Francois Bernier are, and 2) a debate begins about their work, much like the debate about Darwin. The debate about the first two gentlemen, I believe, will have more scientific validity.

Oy vay iz mir. I bet these jerks at the height of the Holocaust would have interviewed Hitler and Himmler to "show balance."

Is CNN going after Fox's market?

re: #2 Romantic Heretic

You're not far off. That's the news template. We can't give you objectivity, except by assuming that every issue has two sides, and you interview both sides. Except when it comes to Israel (but this goes without saying).

I believe Brimelow is also an immigrant from England? I believe he also use to write sometimes for Forbes which he uses to his advantage to make him sound more legit. I believe he also made a comment on his site once, before Obama was elected that if the republican party would just come out and openly embrace their 'white' preference they would get a lot more votes. Any immigrant who comes to this country then works to keep other immigrants out is a remarkable kind of Jack ass in the annals of jack assery.

This is really sickening. CNN didn't even have the guts to unequivocally state that Brimelow and Edwards are white supremacists, as even a cursory glance at their websites demonstrates. Brimelow tries to put an intellectual gloss on it, but James Edwards is an old-school KKK caveman.

What the fuck were they thinking?

That's why folks come to LGF for news.

arggghg. Just arrggh. CNN what a bunch of tools.

Some may see him as extreme, but Brimelow argues in his columns that more white Americans are moving toward his stance on immigration and other issues.

He cites as proof the rise of the Tea Party movement and the racial makeup of Beck's march on Washington. He says more whites recognize, even if it's only on a subliminal level, that they have common interests to defend.

I actually think this is kinda true. The Tea Party is a quasi white populist movement.

9 Randall Gross  Fri, Mar 4, 2011 12:57:09pm

Seriously CNN, why don't you just invite the Council of Conservative Citizens on since Edwards is their mouthpiece? Whose programming decision was this bullshit? Are you so desperate for viewers that you are going to dip into the hate bucket?

10 Randall Gross  Fri, Mar 4, 2011 1:03:53pm

The CNN transcript is now posted at CoCC.

What the fuck were they thinking?

"We want Fox's ratings and will talk to the Klan if that's what it takes!"

This is why CNN has sucked hard for years. They're worthless.

ack, it's an article not a transcript: So desperate for readers then....

They're even worse than Fox in some ways - Fox only pays the barest lip service to pretending it's not the race-baiting mouthpiece of the GOP, CNN is still a 'respectable' news channel in the minds of many.

And incredibly stupid, since Fox viewers possess a cult-like devotion and loyalty while referring to CNN as the "Communist News Network". They'll never "switch brands".

re: #8 moderatelyradicalliberal

But what are the "common interests to defend"? It's not as if anyone's trying to deprive them of their constitutional rights or their freedom to practice their religion or maintain their culture or anything.

Hell, slavery pretty much obliterated all the rich, original African cultures & languages that arrived on our shores—usually on pain of death or severe punishment—yet black Americans still created their own culture & traditions from the bits & pieces that managed to survive. Our American cultural mosaic is in turn made up of bits & pieces of food, art, language, music, traditions, and concepts from a profusion of other cultures, not all of them WASP (which is what I assume they mean when the say "white").

What, no more pizza, tacos, egg rolls, hummus, or challah? Do away with the blues, jazz, and and rock 'n roll, and salsa? Stop dancing polkas, cumbias, and tangos? Maybe get rid of all the non-Biblical aspects of Christmas, Easter, and Halloween? No more arabesques or algebra or using the word "alcohol"? The list goes on & on.

If we took out all the interesting "foreign" cultural bits, our society would be nearly unrecognizable. And dreadfully BORING (IMHO).

I'm beginning to think it's just a case of collective guilty conscience that's causing all the fear & uncertainty. That and some straight-up racism in certain quarters.

18 What, me worry?  Fri, Mar 4, 2011 2:25:15pm

It's not really new. The mainstreaming of racism pretty much started with David Duke.

Back when the KKK was sued by Morris Dees and the SPLC (early 70s), the KKK crumbled from millions to a few 1000. Duke appeared on the scene in the late 70s, early 80s, not carrying a shotgun, or Nazi symbols, or dressed in robes, but wearing a suit and tie. Good looking and college-educated, this was the new face of the Klan. The message was "embrace your white heritage" and "we don't hate Blacks, we're just pro-White." Of course, nothing has changed. They are still are immoral and ruthless as they ever were.

It's a mind fuck straight out of 1984 and now with our Black president and the racism of the teabaggers, it's getting mainstreamed once again.

They seem to be admitting that white supremacists are a decent chunk of their audience

Unless it was "in order to compete with Fox we have to stoop to their level", I have no earthly idea.

I don't even think they want Fox's ratings, I think they want to not lose further market share

CNN isn't doing this for nothing! If they're doing this, it's because they feel there's an audience receptive to it

this is that well known liberal bias I'm seeing

Because when I think of lefty mcleft hippie bleeding hearts, I of course think of white supremacists, because they always vote Dem and love Obama

Take a deeper look at the ebb and wane of the various KKK groups--SPLC was instrumental in crippling a revived Klan the last time around, but the greater collapse happened a generation earlier. (Where I live, I read the SPLC Intelligence Report like a weather forecast.)

I've been trying to find out something about John Blake, the author of this article. He writes a lot about religion (writes for CNN's Belief Blog), wrote a book with a subtitle too long for Amazon to handle (Children of the Movement: The Sons and Daughters of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad, George Wallace, Andrew Young, Julian Bond...), and received an award from the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists.

And this is not the first time he's quoted racists without identifying them as such. Last time (that I found) it was Steve Sailer. He also caught some flak for writing this article: Why Obama doesn't dare become the 'angry black man'

He remains a mystery.

To take a cue from SMBC:

New rule for journalism: If your article can be summarized as "No." Don't write it.

A mystery indeed. I've been busy collecting names over the past several months, so you made me kind of curious. I didn't find out anything new about him, but one thing led to another and this article at the SPLC mentions a couple of other instances where CNN has racist sources.

CNN just moved way up on my "questionable news sources" list.

Once you begin poking around, it's amazing (and highly unsettling) to note how much misinformation and flat out disinformation is being fed to everyone (including police, as pointed out in ice's recent page).

I'm making a list
and checking it twice,
gonna find out
who's naughty and nice...

CNN is pathetic and spineless, afraid of its own shadow. No wonder it's dropped to 3rd among cable news networks.
