hey the rich have all the money.... we should take it! That would be the solution.... just reach into their pockets and take as much as we need.

Geez, really?

re: #1 Buck

Maybe he means that the rich could begin foundations of venture capital and create new industries and jobs?

Seriously, a troubling sign for the economy is when wealth becomes concentrated and doesn't circulate.

You just don't get it do you. I won't waste my time debating this with you.

Yep. Capital needs to work. If it doesn't, things fall apart.

Would have thought this would be rather obvious after the financial meltdown.

Not what this guy is suggesting is it?

the super rich not paying their fair share of taxes

Hard to " begin foundations of venture capital and create new industries and jobs" if the government take your money.

Geez, really?

No. Because no one is saying that.

And you complain about others putting words into your mouth. Kinda sad.

It is right there for all to see. And in the video he suggests that the super rich pay no taxes. That the country is not bankrupt because the money is in the hands of these super rich.

the super rich not paying their fair share of taxes

Seems very clear.

re: #7 Buck

So you think that saying "The rich don't pay their fair share of taxes" means "hey the rich have all the money... we should take it! That would be the solution... just reach into their pockets and take as much as we need."?

Not, say "The tax rates on the rich need to be raised"?

Funny that you don't get that it is virtually the same thing. I mean "Make the Rich Pay" would be another way of putting it.

I didn't think that saying it exactly the same way he did was needed. I said it the way I understood what he is saying.

He makes a bunch of accusatins that are just plain untrue, and inflammatory. But It sounds like we agree on what his conclusion is...

So you seriously think that paying taxes is basically coercive? That's all the transaction, is to, you, the government just taking someone's money?

I didn't realize you were that much of an extremist, frankly.

Ya, raising taxes (they already pay taxes) on one specific group is akin to the government taking more of that groups money.

Extremist? I don't see that, but OK.

A) Taxes are on income levels, not on groups.

B) Taxation is, yes, taking a percentage of income. That's what it is.

C) What you said, though, was this:

"hey the rich have all the money... we should take it! That would be the solution... just reach into their pockets and take as much as we need"

A rise in the tax on the rich-- would that be the equivalent of reaching into their pockets and taking as much as we need?

OKay, I'm assuming this is your answer:

Funny that you don't get that it is virtually the same thing. I mean "Make the Rich Pay" would be another way of putting it.

This would indicate you think that a rise in the tax of a few percentage points, a known amount, is the equivalent of taking an unlimited amount.

Why do you think those are the same thing, Buck?

Ahh, once again your question is twisted. I never said unlimited, that would be silly....

Your question should be:

This would indicate you think that a rise in the tax of a few percentage points, a known amount, is the equivalent of taking "as much as we need" ?

Yes, I suppose "as much as we need" could be "a known amount."

re: #15 Buck

Yes, I suppose "as much as we need" could be "a known amount."

it could be an infinite amount, right, Buck? But what it definitely could not be is, actually, a known amount, no.

You see, taxation works by saying a certain percentage will be taken.

The scary, unreal thing you're talking about would be a law saying that the amount taxed on the rich would be equivalent to whatever spending had been decided upon.

I'm really unclear at this point if you just can't see how twisted your argument is-- like your argument about how the GOP was just using the word 'violent' in reference to only allowing abortions for violent rapes in order to underline the severity of the crime, rather than to, you know, limit abortion access, which was the entire point of the bill-- or whether you do understand that what you said was burning hyperbole of the worst kind, but your pride or whatever won't allow you to admit it.

re: #16 Obdicut

OK, now you are just changing the subject.

No. "how much we need" is not shorthand for an infinite amount.

18 Obdicut  Tue, Mar 15, 2011 7:10:35pm

re: #17 Buck

It certainly is shorthand for an indefinite, and potentially infinite amount. It is not, as you said, a known amount.

You've made yourself abundantly clear. I don't have to add to it. You think raising taxes on a certain level of income is the equivalent of robbing money from them.

You're an extremist.

everyone needs to pay more taxes
