Airbus invades American air space
AMR, Corp., the parent of American Airlines, has ordered 260 new jets from Airbus.
There are undoubtedly many who will decry AMR’s Airbus order as downright un-American. It certainly won’t help the nation’s trade balance.
But AMR is behaving in accordance with that most American of business traditions: looking out for itself. And Wall Street loves it, so much so that it looked right past the ugly $286 million second-quarter loss AMR posted Wednesday morning, sending the stock nearly 4% higher at the open in a clear bet on the airline’s future — Airbus and all.
