He's also a Muslim, which means he's taken twice the crap others have.

Truthfully, I don't have a huge issue with what he said.

I am not gonna defend this one. It is one thing to say that the Tea Party has racist overtones and assumptions. It is something else entirely to say they are all Klansmen who would string people up if they could.

However...

If we start seeing more Tea Party types showing up at rallies this next year with assault rifles and making threats about second amendment remedies...I will re-evaluate my opinion.

Also, I responded to your "union smypathizer" ad comment concerning Max Cleland. There was more then one ad of course, and Senator Cleland was repeatedly accused of being soft on terror and unpatriotic. I lived in Georgia at the time and it was vile beyond belief.

I'm picturing Breitbart and Limbaugh rubbing their hands in glee and chortling "See! See! -- They are more racist than we! SEE!"

Carson could read from the works of St. Thomas Aquinas all day long, Breitbart and Limbaugh would still have the same response, no matter what is said. So one can't really go by what people like that might or may do...their response to everything is predictable as the sunrise.

What an idiot. I hate this kind of inflammatory rhetoric from politicians. It is unhealthy. He could have been an adult and discussed the very real issue of racist elements within the Tea party. I don't have a problem with non politicians and leaders being blunt, but i expect diplomacy and a level head from elected officials.

They are vicious against everyone not exactly like them.

The vitriol in Washington has hit a new low. That is nasty.

7 wrenchwench  Wed, Aug 31, 2011 10:31:06am

The brush used by Rep. Carson was of a very specific width. It is this broad:

Sandy Adams, Florida
Robert Aderholt, Alabama
Todd Akin, Missouri
Rodney Alexander, Louisiana
Michele Bachmann, Minnesota, Chair
Roscoe Bartlett, Maryland
Joe Barton, Texas
Gus Bilirakis, Florida
Rob Bishop, Utah
Diane Black, Tennessee
Michael C. Burgess, Texas
Paul Broun, Georgia
Dan Burton, Indiana
John Carter, Texas
Bill Cassidy, Louisiana
Howard Coble, North Carolina
Mike Coffman, Colorado
Chip Cravaack, Minnesota
Ander Crenshaw, Florida
John Culberson, Texas
Jeff Duncan, South Carolina
Blake Farenthold, Texas
Stephen Fincher, Tennessee
John Fleming, Louisiana
Trent Franks, Arizona
Phil Gingrey, Georgia
Louie Gohmert, Texas
Vicky Hartzler, Missouri
Wally Herger, California
Tim Huelskamp, Kansas
Lynn Jenkins, Kansas
Steve King, Iowa
Doug Lamborn, Colorado
Jeff Landry, Louisiana
Blaine Luetkemeyer, Missouri
Kenny Marchant, Texas
Tom McClintock, California
David McKinley, West Virginia
Gary Miller, California
Mick Mulvaney, South Carolina
Randy Neugebauer, Texas
Rich Nugent, Florida
Steve Pearce, New Mexico
Mike Pence, Indiana
Ted Poe, Texas
Tom Price, Georgia
Denny Rehberg, Montana
Phil Roe, Tennessee
Dennis Ross, Florida
Ed Royce, California
Steve Scalise, Louisiana
Tim Scott, South Carolina
Pete Sessions, Texas
Adrian Smith, Nebraska
Lamar Smith, Texas
Cliff Stearns, Florida
Tim Walberg, Michigan
Joe Walsh, Illinois
Allen West, Florida
Lynn Westmoreland, Georgia
Joe Wilson, South Carolina

He said

“Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens,” Carson continued. “Some of them in Congress right now with this tea party movement would love to see you and me — I’m sorry, Tamron — hanging on a tree.”

That's not a broad brush. There is a list of people that can be checked for quotations to see whethter his statement has any basis in truth.

I can offer a bit of insight to one of them: Steve Pearce is a nasty teabagger, but his district is so heavily Hispanic that I think he watches his mouth pretty closely when it comes to racial or ethnic denigration.

Oh, for God's sakes.

Over the top, and a very ugly charge to throw around at a large group of people without specific evidence.

Also, doesn't match my perception of the Tea Party. They're greedy and selfish, more than anything else, haunted by the notion that someone, somewhere, is eating a free lunch on their dime. The violence they contemplate has to do with eliminating programs people need to live, not lynching.

9 HappyWarrior  Wed, Aug 31, 2011 11:25:50am

Stupid thing to say. I can't stand the TP either but saying they want to lynch people is a really far fetched accusation. Of course, this doesn't take away from the dumb shit the TP and its congressional members (Hi, Louie Gohmert and Steve King specifically here) has said about race so it doesn't leave them off the hook by any stretch.

re: #6 NJDhockeyfan

I don't think it has hit a new low with this incident. I think the low was hit by others a long time ago. And i understand Carson's anger.
I have been very disappointed with the non white supremacist Tea party and right wing for not being more disgusted by the white supremacists in their midst and even going so far as to cover for them by claiming the left is just being politically Correct about it.

re: #7 wrenchwench

Good point.

The thing is that there are plenty of hard concrete real examples of racism in particular tea party groups that you don't have to make shit up.

Well, it's like they shake their fingers at every single of the 1bn Muslims in the world, "well where are the people who speak out against it?"

Let alone, stop it. Let the tea party go clutch their pearls and cry me a river about broad brushes ˚_˚

14 OhCrapIHaveACrushOnSarahPalin  Wed, Aug 31, 2011 9:04:18pm

BTW, this grab-the-hemprope attitude goes way beyond the idiotic tea party, it's articulated daily on their media. Not just against Blacks, either.

Forget the stupid tea party, Republicans should actually be glad only the tea party was singled out.
