About that Ice Cream Sandwich
Google has confirmed that it will update the existing Nexus S handset to new Ice Cream Sandwich Android software in the next few weeks, but has also said that its original Nexus One is ‘too old’ for the upgrade.
We’re beginning to find out how many devices will be able to upgrade to Android 4.0 and it looks like some devices less than 2 years old don’t even qualify. Harsh. To contrast this, the iPhone 3GS, released in June 2009, just got the iOS 5 upgrade.
If nothing else, I think that smartphone users should at least be able to keep their device’s software current for the duration of their contract. The Nexus One came out in January 2010 here and May 2010 in Europe. Dropping support for a device before it has even been on the market for 2 years is shameful. You have to sign a two year contract to get the damn thing in the first place.
