That is fucked up.

ICE needs an overhaul. Somebody should lose their job for screwing up this badly.

ICE needs to be more careful. But they can not even manage to prioritize getting after felons first as our President asked them to. I would not want my fate in their hands, far too likely to screw up.

Giving a false identity to the police and just hoping for the best is a pretty bad idea. Running away from home as a teen can be deadly, we see them in Hollywood far too often.

How, how, how could this happen?

Just imagine: what if you were a tourist in some strange city and you lost your wallet?

Get this, from the original story:

“There are still many unanswered questions about how an African-American girl who speaks no Spanish is mistaken for a foreign national. Immigration officials are investigating and released a statement late Tuesday.”

They deported a black, non-Spanish speaking 14-year-old to Columbia? What level of incompetent does it take to manage that? Even in Texas.

MSNBC reports that since the “error” was discovered, this girl has been in jail in Columbia, and is pregnant. She spent the last year cleaning houses. Her grandmother finally found her through Facebook.

Holy crap! This level of incompetence is mind boggling!

Just somebody? Everyone who was involved in allowing this atrocity to happen over there needs to be fired! “This level of incompetence is mind boggling” is one hell of an understatement…

9 No Country For Old Haters  Jan 4, 2012 4:01:44pm

Kidnapping a 14 year old girl and shipping her to Columbia should come with a much higher penalty than losing one’s job.

10 FreedomMoon  Jan 4, 2012 4:03:19pm

Shit like this is not going to stop happening until they do away with mandated quotas. I guess when you can’t find enough “illegals” you just start rounding up the helpless.

Here’s the kicker if you guys didn’t read the whole article.

This is what happens when states get to run federal departments. The southern ICE units are run more and more by corrupt and extremely violent, inhumanly racist(and therefore, of course, brainless) thugs who’ve been fired from their state and county law enforcement.
ICE needs to be cleaned out and shaken up by the Justice Department - state power over federal departments - especially departments operating in locations where where ideological and sectarian hatred overtly trumps reality and the law - has proven over and over again to be disastrous on all sorts of levels.

This sounds like a Cheech and Chong joke.

…except without the humor.

…which is an understatement.

Folks, get a grip. Did you read the article?

News 8 learned that Jakadrien somehow ended up in Houston, where she was arrested by Houston police for theft. She gave Houston police a fake name. When police in Houston ran that name, it belonged to a 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Colombia, who had warrants for her arrest.

I’m sure she had plenty of opportunities to avoid being deported, starting with telling the police her real name instead of lying. Again once she realized that the fake name she gave them was for an illegal immigrant with an arrest warrant for other crimes. Again when she was going to be deported. Again, she could have called her family at any time and said come rescue me.

re: #15 Timmeh

Yeah, you’re right. If a 14 y/o black girl can lie well enough to convince police that she’s really a 22 y/o Colombian, then its her own damn fault.

Just in case: /sarc

You have to be shitting me…the fact is ICE severely fucked up verifying the girl’s identity, even after they processed her and got her prints. It doesn’t matter that she gave a false name, because the fact that she spoke no Spanish and was 8 years younger than the person whose name she gave should have clued someone in that something wasn’t kosher with the situation.

ICE had multiple chances to get this right and they didn’t…they screwed the pooch royally here. That girl should have never been sent off US soil and you know it.

Do you REALLY think that in the face of all this, she wouldn’t have been screaming her real name like every frikkin’ minute? What’s more likely - that she never said anything up to and including the moment they dragged her, kicking and screaming, to another damn country where she couldn’t even speak the language, or that her pleas and attempts were towards people who, after already screwing up pretty badly, just ignored her and didn’t bother to check the facts?
Cause my money’s on the latter WAY more than the former….

Are you fucking kidding me? She was 14 YEARS OLD. Are you seriously justifying the deportation of a teenager for no reason?

20 cinesimon  Jan 5, 2012 2:50:08am

Timmeh that really is bizarre.
Yes, I’m sure the only reason she got deported was that she couldn’t be bothered asking not to be.
Oh, hi!
This is the planet earth.
Welcome!
Some friendly advice from a fellow traveler: you will likely need to work on your critical thinking skills before an intelligent homo-sapiens will be able to understand what it is you’re saying.
Mind you, you’d get along fine with those ICE agents, I’m sure! And yes, they, too are homo-sapiens. Poor examples, though - but if you’re here to experience humanity, it may be best that you start off easy - communicating with people at your level of neuron activity…

21 RadicalModerate  Jan 5, 2012 3:49:32am

This story just BARELY scratches the surface of how messed up ICE is right now.
There was an audit last year regarding wrongful ICE detentions and deportations of American citizens. The results were NOT pretty.

U.S. citizenship no defense against deportation threat

After a detailed examination of federal immigration records, Prof. Jacqueline Stevens of Northwestern University estimated this year that about 4,000 American citizens were illegally detained or deported as aliens in 2010. In a study published last summer, she found that as many as 20,000 citizens may have been wrongly held or deported since 2003.

22 Archangelus  Jan 5, 2012 6:11:54am

Seems like the story is getting more attention now - seen it brought up on more than a dozen media spots and sites in the past couple of hours. Frankly, the more the better, as there should be some serious outrage over this IMO…

They fingerprinted her and they could have verified that she was not the illegal, based on that information. At that point they should have asked her, what is her real name and how can they contact her family.
