Apps under the tree? A record-breaking 1.2 billion of them
Smart-phone and tablet users downloaded a record-breaking 1.2 billion apps in the week after Christmas, 60 percent more than normal, according to Flurry, a mobile analytics company.
Gift cards to app stores and new devices under the tree probably contributed to the total, which is expected to return to roughly pre-Christmas numbers in the coming weeks, the company said.
On Christmas Day alone, 6.8 million new iOS and Android devices were activated and 242 million apps were downloaded. Over the next week, an additional 13.2 million devices were activated and 958 million more apps were downloaded.
These numbers represent the “highest number of device activations and app downloads of any week in history,” the company said in a blog post.
