Minor quibble — polyethylene glycol is a polymer (a wax or plastic, depending on chain length) that happens to be synthesized from ethylene glycol (antifreeze). Ethylene glycol itself is toxic.

Otherwise, very interesting…
(now, if only this were an open access journal…)
