‘IAF strikes Hezbollah target in Lebanese territory’

The Israel Air Force bombed an intelligence-gathering device in southern Lebanon on Monday, according to Lebanese media reports.

One of the reports claimed that the attack was carried out by an air-to-surface missile which struck a ‘device’ between the southern towns of Zrariyeh and Tayr Filsay.

Al Manar TV said that the attack targeted a device that had been installed on a Hezbollah telecommunications cable. Naharnet said that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked UNIFIL to investigate the bombing.

Unlikely that Israel actually wasted a missile or bomb to destroy the device. On the contrary, a photograph published under AFP’s by-line appears to indicate that any explosion was very small and localized. Far more likely, therefore, that the device — assuming it was actually an Israeli listening device — self-destructed by a built-in or remote command.

There are always reports of Israeli warplanes over southern Lebanon. In any event, AFP posted a photo of the alleged damage caused by the destruction of the listening device. It can be viewed at the following link:

As you can see, that is hardly the kind of damage one would expect if an Israeli warplane had fired a missile or dropped a bomb.

Don’t know why the links are not working. Tried posting several links, but keep getting the same message that the page does not exist or is unavaialble. For anyone looking to view the photo posted by AFP, I suggest running the following search on Google or another search engine:

The search should turn up a usable link.
