On a more serious note, the phrase "this is my body" has some interesting implications.

The idea embedded in that phrase is that the self, "me" as in "my", is different than the "body".

In our English language this is a holdover, I propose, of the dualism inherent in religious world views (of many kinds.)

A more accurate statement, given what we know today, would be "I am my body".

Being a former Catholic, I too noticed that phrase...and using it gives the video incredible power.

I think the phrase this is MY BODY is incredibly powerful.

In light of such things as "purity balls", the idea that a women's body is still a matter for debate, I guess, among some circles. If it can't belong to a father, brother, husband or son, then it must belong to a god, or to any and all potential fetuses that might inhabit part of said body. It can never, for some, actually belong to the women who is legally responsible for it's actions.

NO, STOP, WRONG!!!!

IT is MY BODY!

Perhaps, but we also say "my soul" (those of us who speak of souls, in any event). Is that the body speaking?

I think it is just a figure of speech. In western cultures there is a whole tripartite/bipartite debate among theists, but "my soul" I take to not be part of that but just a phrase in English.

I guess my bigger point is that there really is a lot of religion left over, ubiquitous, in our culture. And this struggle by feminists (generic, nothing to particular implied) to free themselves and other women of the patriarchal control of the lives of women in general is certainly evidence of that.
