I almost don’t know what to say.

I love Star Wars. I have loved it since I saw it in the theaters as a little kid. I grew up with it. Cheesy as it may be, all the flaws one might point out, it is still my favorite story and the world I dreamt about the most.

For years, I have been convinced that much of the best Star Wars was the Star Wars that Lucas didn’t write…. Empire…KOTOR…the various excellent Dark Horse comics.

For years, I hoped that Lucas would let the grown up writing talent out there write the sort of Star Wars movies that the fans crave.

I should be thrilled.

Yet, this is Disney. They are the suitiest of the suity companies. They will make an exclusive Star Wars Show for their network. And, yeah, I’m a sucker, I’ll probably watch it. They will focus on toy tie ins and product lines. They have a high chance of more cutesy a Star Wars not aimed at the fans who grew up with it, but rather pointed at selling products to children. That would mean more ewok and jar jar like things to sell to the kiddies.

On the other hand, they might have the sense to listen to the fans who have been screaming about what they want. They say they want a strong working story. We can hope they get Joss Whedon, Drew Karpyshyn or JMS to write it.

We can hope. Honestly it could go either way.

Right now, I hope that Disney understands how to treat a dedicated fan base and understands (like much of the rest of Hollywood) how great comic books can be. Imagine … Just imagine… if they try to do the series based on the Old Republic Dark Horse comics, or on the Legacy series, or the Dawn of the Jedi Series.

So I am shocked, thrilled and very full of trepidation about this.
