Yeah, unless our evangelical puritanism is the only religion, we’re oppressed.

Such victims.

Next weekend my former denomination is “celebrating” Religious Liberty Week, or some such designation. And yes, it’s all about them being ‘free’ to be and say whatever they want because it’s their religious beliefs.

While suppressing others?

This lines right up with the GOP attitude of “Mr President either do whatever we want or you aren’t bi-partisan and are, in fact a divisive socialist, fascist, nazi, arrogant, unconstitutional, non-citizen anti-Christ”.

Same thing with lots of your vocal far right nut jobs. Losing an election mean it was fixed. A law passing you don’t like means the President is a dictator and you should violently revolt.

Is it really that hard to figure our the whole “Do unto others” thing? How about an even easier version “Don’t do unto others what you wouldn’t want done to you”.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

“Outsized Evangelical Angst.”

And we all know how painful that can be.

Dr Butthurt is working on a ‘Miraculous Unction’ for it as we speak.

The problem with religious head cases is that they possess unsubstantiated
righteousness in being prejudiced with respect to unbelievers.
As Bill Maher said after an interview with the clear thinking Richard Dawkins.
It’s time to have “The God Delusion” in hotel rooms.(replacing Gideon’s)
It’s a lot less boring and fanciful than the ” Holey Babble”

Their constant whining about “religious freedom” and their “fearful” outlook for the next five years says to me that maybe the evangelicals are not as certain about the “supremacy” of their brand of Christianity as they would like us to believe. This is great news!

9 HappyWarrior  Tue, Jan 22, 2013 8:53:59pm

Evangelicals seem to forget that without the religious freedom provisions of the Constitution, they would have been persecuted. That’s what annoys me the most about modern Evangelicals how they want to ignore how much their ancestors suffered under states where church and state were one but want to bring that back now that they’re large in numbers. And on a personal note, it annoys me when Catholics do it too, cough Penal Laws.

Some of this goes all the way back to colonial times.

The “religious freedom” sought by a significant block of the immigrants (e.g., the Puritans of Massachusetts) was the freedom to persecute others on religious grounds in ways that were becoming unacceptable to English authorities.

Watch: Burning Texas Railroad Bridge Crumples Like Dominoes
This wooden trestle was 103 years old but, hey, we're fired up about business in Texas, thanks to low taxes and minimum regulation. A fire toppled a railroad bridge like it was made of dominoes outside the small town of San Saba, Texas. Masturbation ‘At the Root of Culture Wars’ - Boing Boing
. . . and that is why he is so sure of the 'miracle of the emaculate conception'". The Atlantic's Hugo Schwyzer has a theory: that masturbation, as the most common sex act, is the heart of modernity's war between Christianity and secularism. Many progressives were bewildered by Antonin Scalia's blistering 2003 dissent in Lawrence v Texas, in which he warned that state laws ...

My Response to Todays Speech-Standing O
Only the best of leaders dare to reduce the powers of their office or government. I applaud the effort in the strongest terms. Please support these changes with your own Congressman or Senator. Knights Templar Drug Cartel Burns Michoacan, Western State in Mexico
LA RUANA, Mexico -- The farm state of Michoacan is burning. A drug cartel that takes its name from an ancient monastic order has set fire to lumber yards, packing plants and passenger buses in a medieval-like reign of terror. New Method for Producing Clean Hydrogen
Duke University engineers have developed a novel method for producing clean hydrogen, which could prove essential to weaning society off of fossil fuels and their environmental implications. While hydrogen is ubiquitous in the environment, producing and collecting molecular hydrogen for transportation and industrial uses is expensive and complicated. Just as importantly, a byproduct of most current methods of producing hydrogen is carbon monoxide, ...

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics
Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists. During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace. Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Pope Francis explained how upset Jesus' ...
