Not sure how you interpret “the NRA gun society”.

This incident flies in the face of the far and away most common scenario for CCW permitees. That would be no accidents and no incidents. Both of those are quite rare. Go ahead and total up the CCW permits and the CCW related accidents and misuses. Do the math and look at the rate of incident. Pretty darn low.

Just yesterday a friend in the jewelry biz was telling me about a recent incident he had at home. Two men broke into his house. My friend confronted them gun in hand as they approached his bedroom where his wife was sitting terrified on the phone with 911. One man ran out the other surrendered for arrest a short while later. Shots fired-0. Injuries-0 Arrests-1 for felony b & e with intent to do physical harm.
My friend has some training, knew enough to toss his keys out his window for the police to enter easily. The guys made enough noise forcing their way in there was time to get a gun out of a quick release gun safe.

The guy that surrendered was armed with a long piece of iron rebar.

Unfortunately many C&C permit holders think that it is legal to fire at a fleeing burglar or fire at a burglar[s] in a fleeing vehicle , only to find themselves arrested and charge with reckless endangerment . And just like this schmuck , attempt to use the “stand your ground ” law or self defense. Cops dont even shoot at fleeing vehicles unless there are special mitigating factors . Burglars and Shoplifters fleeing the scene are not one of them .

Got a link?

Was that to me? There is nothing to link to. Of course that story is an anecdote, so the appropriate limitations are offered & accepted.

That would almost perfectly define the untrained. “Shall Issue” has got to include “Must pass use of force and safety tests”

I mean defensive training first day, first day, first effing minute-You do not ever take it to the alleged criminal. You GTFO or take cover, perhaps observe and then report as best you can. Pro Tip- shoot only if cornered, trapped or in incontrovertible defense of another human life.

What I meant by NRA’s gun society, is where everyone is armed, and the good guy shoots the bad guy.

And yes, currently this is not the common scenario, but I see it as a glimpse of the future of the NRA’s more guns is the solution to all of the problems.

re: #6 Awea

The NRA seems beyond hope. So the work falls to the rest of us. The real world. Where at most (as far as I could find in a quick google) about 5% of the population gets a CCW. Where hopefully we can regulate standards of training for CCW to avoid exactly the kind of foolishness seen above. Cars, boats, planes, and serious equipment all has requirements. For all the right reasons.

Obamacare Will Be a Debacle — for Republicans
Well, the preliminary numbers for CA are in -- and they're looking very good, with costs coming in below expectations. At this point, it looks as if this thing is indeed going to work. And think about the political dynamics. Because the Supreme Court decided to let states opt out of the Medicaid expansion, some states -- notably Texas -- will have a ...

An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

SIGN THE PETITION, learn about it: Feminist Campus - Campaign to Expose Fake Clinics
"Crisis Pregnancy Centers" (CPCs) or Pregnancy Resource Centers advertise on your campus and in your community. They pose as comprehensive women's health clinics and advertise under "abortion" and "family planning" services, but do not offer abortion services, contraception, or referrals. CPCs often provide false information about abortion, birth control, and the effectiveness of condoms for the prevention of STIs and HIV. Ultimately, their ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...

Woolwich: a History of Violence
As shocking and appalling as Wednesdays brutal murder was, Woolwich (wool-ich) is a not so surprising location for such an attack. As someone pretty local to Woolwich, I thought I might give a little profile of the area, if anyone is interested. Woolwich is traditionally a military area, with the old Arsenal at its centre and the new barracks one of London's important military ...

There Is No Such Thing Really as Professional Photographers
there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
