Talk about WTF — Pamela Geller suggests that the Park51 people may have deliberately kept it secret because they wanted it as a “gruesome” trophy.

Now they are finding more of the plane at the Ground Zero Mosque? Why now? Why wasn’t it turned over earlier? Did Gamal intend for it to be part of the mega-mosque he has once again resurrected? It is too gruesome to consider.

What if they found her fingerprints on it? Would not surprise me.

That is quite a large piece of evidence.

How was it not found after all these years? Was it wedged between these buildings the whole time? If it was placed there, how did they find it and capture it as a “souvenir” while police, firefighters and investigators were swarming the place? Was it somebody who was an investigator (or gained access to the area by pretending to be one?)

Saying it was “planted” there raises more questions than if it was wedged there all along.

This is WTF cubed.

I’m assuming that finding the gear may stop any progress as they look for more. But that means somebody else had to find it first and keep it under wraps.

How weird.

WTF? Very strange. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the experts say.

Oh, FFS. How typical of her.

I hope that’s not the case. That would be seriously effed up.

I’m going to guess that if it was there from the crash there would be impact marks. It is highly suspicious that there is no marking or damage on the buildings between which this gear allegedly fell, but there needs to be scrapes and dents on the walls and under the gear. This damage needs to be consistent with an extremely heavy and somewhat large metal object falling several hundred feet after a launching explosion and residual velocity from the crash.

Not going to say it isn’t, just going to say I’m going to wait to see what the actual evidence and analysis shows.

The twisted metal part _ jammed in an 18-inch-wide, trash-laden passageway between the buildings _ has cables and levers on it and is about 5 feet high, 17 inches wide and 4 feet long, police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Friday.

“It’s a manifestation of a horrific terrorist act a block and a half away from where we stand,” he said after visiting the alley.

The commissioner noted that a piece of rope intertwined with the part looks like a broken pulley that may have come down from the roof of the Islamic community center.

It would be pretty stupid for the Park51 people to plant the landing gear there since, if I’m reading it right, the NBC New York article (referenced by the Gothamist) says it was the owner of the (Park51) property who hired the surveyors that found it.

The NYPD said the landing gear was found after surveyors hired by the property owner inspecting the rear of 51 Park Place called police on Wednesday. See below for a map. […]

In a statement, Sharif El-Gamal, the president of Soho Properties, which owns 51 Park Place, said workers called the city and the police as soon as they discovered the landing gear. He said the company is cooperating with the city and the police to make sure the piece of equipment “is removed with care as quickly and effectively as possible.” […]

Ah, here we go. I did read it correctly:

The piece of equipment was discovered Wednesday by surveyors inspecting the lower Manhattan site of a planned Islamic community center, at 51 Park Place, on behalf of the building’s owner, police said. […]

Additionally, I’d forgotten that landing gear from a Boeing767 had also punctured the roof of the building on 9/11 (from the same Time article):

When plans for the Islamic center, about three blocks from ground zero, were made public in 2010, opponents said they didn’t want a mosque so close to where Islamic extremists attacked. They argued the site was “sacred” because landing gear from one of the hijacked Boeing 767 jets had punctured the roof of the building on Sept. 11. […]

I trust they’ll get to the bottom of the mystery, but it’s probably gonna take a while.

That makes sense. Buildings in that area sometimes have a pulley system for lifting something they can’t fit on their stairs or elevator.
