I actually know the location, having passed it on occasion when visiting friends in the area. That houses of worship change hands - and even religious affiliations isn’t uncommon. And it happens more and more as demographics shift in urban areas. One synagogue I’ve attended in Paterson was going to be turned into a church as the congregation moved to a few towns over - where most of the congregation had gone.

It was a gloriously designed building, with a balcony and immense stained glass windows and a gorgeous stained glass ceiling (which is featured on the congregation’s home page logo). The deal to sell to a church fell through, and while the congregation took some of the stained glass with them, the building is now in limbo.

Yeah, I know of several other mosques that were formerly churches, synagogues, etc. It’s usually not an issue unless the haters insert themselves & start instigating.

Wow, the stained glass ceiling is indeed gorgeous!

Yeah, historic Reform temple Rodef Shalom on Broad St. used to be a synagogue first, then a church, then a mosque, then a synagogue again and it kept some little pieces from each period, ie it still has a beautiful pipe organ and dome.

In the neighborhood where I have lived for over 30 years the old Oxford Circle Jewish Community Center is now The St Thomas Indian Orthodox Church. I am happy to see the building being used instead of being abandoned.
