Three Dimensional Chess
So, the Knight’s moves are problematic in 3D chess.
BACKGROUND: I’m an okay chess player. I can beat another okay player half the time, and can lose to a Master with a respectable score. Grandmasters beat my ass like a redheaded stepchild.
However, when I play 3D chess, I am either a god or an oaf.
It has to do with varying rules for the Knights: how their already weird movement on the normal 2D board translates into 3D. Since there are so many variations on how they can move in a 3D environment, I haven’t yet really paid the attention I should have.
My supposition is that when all moves are “free” (x/y/z axis), I do better, but if I have to dedicate two spaces to one plane with the Knight, I do worse.
I am slightly better than okay at 3D chess than standard. Slightly.
Anyone else have similar experiences?
