Another great example of an intolerant right winger who sees the light only after it affects someone they know and care about.

Kinda like Sen. Portman (OH) who became the first gop senator to support same sex marriage. But only after his son came out of the closet, which finally made the issue real to Portman.

Oh well. Empathy delayed is better than empathy denied, I guess.

Or like Dick Cheney quietly voting against anything that was anti-gay while he served as congresscritter for the state of Wyoming.

Indeed.

A large part of the right wing psyche is rejection and revulsion of just about anything that is not immediately tangible or obtainable- a pointedly infantile mindset.

The realization that marijuana might be beneficial in certain circumstances instead of just knee jerk “socialist/communist/whatever hippie weed” hit her right at home. I have a feeing that if her relative were not able to afford medical care Michelle might finally support some sort of socialized medicine as well.

I am glad to see her realize that legalization is a good thing but I’d like to see a conservative have a change of heart on an issue that doesn’t directly effect them. I mean while I do applaud this and Portman/Cheney’s support for SSM. Those are two things that would never happen that if they didn’t have family directly impacted by discriminatory measures. That’s why I have tons more respect for Ted Olson on LGBT rights than I do Cheney.
