This story looks like it’s going to grow. Luckily I was able to change mine early yesterday when I read the first news reports.

Funny though, or not so funny on second thought: it wasn’t eBay that informed me of their breach. I saw nothing on eBay’s site as I went through the series of clicks to change my pw.

On a bad note, I was just preparing a bunch of items for sale. Better to hold off if millions (who knows the real count) are unable to access their accounts.

On a good note, I live in Massachusetts, which has one of the nations harshest data laws. Time to ask the AG what she’s doing about this. On a better note, she’s running for Governor… ;)

Edit: Unlike what the article said, I had no trouble logging into my eBay account.

To be fair, this apparently was posted after I made the change yesterday.

eBay Notice

Three months ago, and they’re just telling us now.

Transparency, Pierre Omidyar-style.

If Ebay used a standard technique to scramble the passwords then most of them are easily decodeable using rainbow tables, assuming they are 8-characters or less.

I can’t remember my ebay password. Maybe these guys can tell me

No kidding! That was my first thought reading this (after going and changing my PW).

Sheeesh.
