Russ Campbellâs Blog: Hudakâs âMillion Jobs Planâ Is the Economic Tonic Ontario Needs
Tim HuÂdak says, if elected, his ProÂgresÂsive ConÂserÂvÂaÂtive govÂernÂment would creÂate one milÂlion net new jobs over eight years. HuÂdak also promises heâd cut 100,000 jobs from the pubÂlic secÂtor.
This pledge has launched a fuÂriÂous deÂbate over the chances that the PCs could acÂtuÂally creÂate that many new jobs, and the damÂage critÂics claim will be done to govÂernÂment serÂvices if 100,000 pubÂlic secÂtor jobs were cut.
Both the Grits and the DipÂpers are slamÂming the cuts to pubÂlic secÂtor jobs, of course, since both parÂties are heavÂily supÂported by pubÂlic secÂtor unions that supÂply them with fundÂing, third-party adÂverÂtisÂing and camÂpaign volÂunÂteers. No surÂprise there.
HuÂdakâs promise to elimÂiÂnate 100,000 jobs in the broader civil serÂvice would repÂreÂsent about 10 per cent of that secÂtorâs jobs and would leave us with about the same numÂber of pubÂlic secÂtor workÂers as we had in 2009.
