Samsung Acquires US Smart Home Platform Firm
Samsung Electronics took over SmartThings, a home automation technology development firm based in Washington D.C., in a deal to strengthen its capability in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector.
The company did not disclose the acquisition price.
The move can be interpreted as the firm’s show of determination to further integrate its electronic goods, ranging from smartphones to home appliances, with the IoT technology.
“Connecting devices together is strategically very important to Samsung Electronics,” said David Eun, head of Samsung Electronics’ Open Innovation Center, in a statement Friday.
