I’m feeling old.

Scooby Do! Where are you?

Where did Huckleberry Hound go?

I guess with the advent of Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Sprout and other specialized TV channels the powers that be decided it was no longer needed.

Sad really. I miss Bugs Bunny cartoons. CN usually has a June Bugs marathon in June, but that’s about it. Unless I find them online some place.

I miss the tradition there though, I wish network honchos had a little more of a sentimental heart.

I used to hear the beginning notes to the Looney Tunes theme and would immediately remember the taste of Sugar Pops, excuse me, Corn Pops.

I still remember the Bugs Bunny Road Runner hour. There are some local shows I remember too, like Captain Noah and Chief Halftown. It is very sad to see the cartoons gone. :(

That’s basically it. Competition from cable meant the Saturday Morning blocks on network tv were not commercially viable. They haven’t been truly profitable for years. Streaming like Hulu, Netflix and Crunchyroll if that’s to your taste ain’t exactly helping.

By the way, cable channels like the three Mom Anon mentioned do in fact broadcast cartoons on Saturday morning, so it’s not true that American kids have no more Saturday morning cartoons. So do scads of other channels like The Hub, home of My Little Pony. And in true Saturday morning fashion, the Hub is owned by Hasbro. Make of that what you will.

They’re both on Cartoon Network’s ‘classics’ channel, Boomerang.

Considering that I do not get any of the other channels people are mentioning (I don’t want to treble my cable bill), I guess I’m out of luck.
