Not surprising at all, we know that the Islamophobic hard right and the Eurofascists are heavily intertwined.

re: #1 Thanos

Yeah, sadly, I wasn’t the least bit surprised. What did surprise (and annoy) me was that while looking for articles on Wilders & Horowitz, I came across this Tablet magazine piece that tries to whitewash some of the most egregious purveyors of anti-Muslim propaganda. The author appears to be a right winger, so I guess I’m not surprised, but I thought Tablet was better than that. I was obviously wrong.

It was full of B.S. like this (emphasis mine):

The SPLC blacklist list contains practicing Muslims like Maajid Nawaz, ex-Muslims like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, foreign-policy think-tankers like Frank Gaffney and Daniel Pipes, and right-wing firebrands like David Horowitz—none of whom could be reasonably described as anti-Muslim bigots.

Ayaan Hirsi is simply an ex-Muslim, no mention of her bigotry, hateful language, and creepy right-wing associations? Gaffney is a “foreign-policy think-tanker?” What about his swivel-eyed Muslim Brotherhood conspiracy theories? Daniel Pipes? The guy whose Middle East Forum funded a trip for Fjordman back in 2013?? These people couldn’t be “reasonably described as anti-Muslim bigots?” WTF would they have to say to be considered bigots?

I wonder if he would use the same deceptively mild adjectives to describe “scholars” and “think tanks” that promote and/or attempt to intellectually justify various forms of antisemitism & Holocaust denial? I think not—in fact, I’m quite sure he wouldn’t.

This also:

Where the SPLC was once able to win legal battles through careful, often dangerous research that could stand up in court, the organization now identifies the Center for Security Policy, a hawkish right-wing think tank, as a hate group, right alongside the Ku Klux Klan. Where the organization once pushed for freedom for all regardless of race or creed, now it aims to silence those whose opinions it finds objectionable. In doing so, it makes it hard for any impartial observer to place much confidence in future claims about groups and individuals that may actually be dangerous.

Srsly? Gaffnety’s CSP is nothing more than a “hawkish right-wing think tank?” Has this guy ever even taken the briefest look at the kind of utterly batshit crazy nonsense Gaffney puts out? Either he hasn’t, which means he’s a crappy journalist for not checking, or he has, which means he’s being completely dishonest.

And this—yes he actually used President Obama as an example:

Obama isn’t a violent anti-Muslim extremist any more than the 15 people named here. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an outspoken critic of Islam and has a compelling personal narrative that reflects the story of millions of women and men who have suffered in the name of Islam. David Horowitz is a pugnacious right-wing intellectual who often engages in sharp propaganda. Daniel Pipes is a fierce adversary of Islamic extremism and a knowledgeable scholar of the Middle East. There is much to disagree with in what they and others identified in the SPLC write or argue. I find the work of a small number of the people listed in the report to be puerile. But neither they, nor anyone on this list, deserve to be listed alongside white supremacists who threaten or actually employ violence.

again with the adjectives that seek to sand down the sharp ragged edges of their hatred & bigotry in an attempt to normalize it. Ugh. *spit*

You help us know these people. We must know our enemy better than he knows himself. In that manner, victory comes swiftly, natural as the tide departing.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is also a pathological liar.

She got her Refugee Status in the Netherlands on a falsified story.
