Why do people persist in the delusion that the words of this pathological liar have any significance at all?

The same reason that we have endless pieces in the news media about Trump voters and essentially nothing about the rest of the populace.

Because the vast majority of the American media attempts to normalise and maintain the dominant narrative, which is the experience of white, middle class America.
