Sherrod says that Cheryl Cook told her ‘the White House’ wanted her to resign. I haven’t heard Cook’s version of events.

Can you come up with some reason why, aware or not, the White House should become directly involved in the disciplining of a USDA employee?

Could be that Cook (either on her own or prompted from above) fed Sherrod the “White House” line to stamp the imprimatur of authority on the resignation request, a purely political move meant to head the media or the WH off the pass. A really craven move, if you ask me…
