Here is whats happening. They are afraid (with good reason) that Romney will lose this election. That leaves them with one option; concentrate on the senate races.

They have to embrace Akin to get the base to show up for downticket races around the country, but I think it could disgust a whole lot more folks and convince them to show up to vote anti-GOP. Bizarre decision, IMHO.
