re: #98 William Barnett-Lewis

One thing about which I on occasion wander is how people in our society will sort out their beliefs over the next couple of generations.

I know there are those who are trying to walk the fine line between orthodox Christian beliefs and the modern world with all the discoveries made over the last century or two. Peter Enns being one, for example.

Others have decided to give up orthodoxy and incorporate a more generalized belief system that I’ll call “soft Theism” - another form of universalism with a dash of Jesus.

I know all too well that we humans need comfort from our emotional roller coasters that life gives us. I really don’t despise the concept of religion - it is our creation, and we created it to fill very real needs.

Yet I am also quite certain that long held magical thinking methods are now so thoroughly discredited that there is simply no more room for Magick (= supernatural.)

The problem is that religion without magic doesn’t comfort as much as the old time religion.
