The fundamental problem with prequels is that the audience knows how it will end. So there’s no real suspense. It is actually damn near impossible to do well.

That said, over the last few weeks, I’ve been rewatching all the movies as well as the clone wars. When all six movies are taken as a complete story, the prequels aren’t actually that bad. The problem is that Lucas is just not a good writer and he insisted on writing the prequels himself.

Lucas’s success went to his head, and he surrounded himself with people who didn’t feel safe telling him the truth. That shit is lethal.
