This is sheer speculation at this point. It’s just as likely, maybe even more so, that this is the classic escalation pattern of a serial killer. After all, even in your scenario where this is all some kind of smokescreen, there is still in fact a bomber on the loose blowing people up, whether randomly or not. That much, at least, is not speculation.

In addition, the two dead men belonged to prominent families who attended the same church all of their lives. Both were from upper middle class Austin black families. They *knew* each other, at least socially. The 17-year old Principal Bassist of the Austin Youth Symphony Orchestra may not have been the target. Could have been his mom or dad.

One other point for you and Frank to ponder. These were *not* high explosives. This could have been black powder, nitrocellulose, or match head pipe bombs. We don’t know. That information has not been released. But the Abuela was right next to the device when it blew and she lived. So it wasn’t gelignite, or plastic, or any of the other exotic instantaneous expanding compounds like those that were used in London.

This totally appears to be anarchist cookbook stuff.
