EVs can do something similar, with regenerative braking. Basically, you use the electric motors as generators to recharge the batteries which simultaneously brakes the car.

Yep. I’m watching Formula 1 qualifying from the Chinese GP right now, and that regenerative braking is a big part of the modern F1 drivers “tools”. On a F1 car now, they generate power off the turbo, the transmission and the brakes, so they have to know how to handle all of that or suddenly your are braking more than you want and someone goes faster.
