I’ve been listening to Joe Rogan’s podcast lately. He’s a nut but very entertaining. The topic of why humans like gold came up and appearantly there’s a theory that humans were genetically engineered to be slaves in gold mines by some aliens and we escaped somehow.

I saw a youtube thingie recently on why so many cultures in so many places chose gold for money (I think it might have been Sully’s blog that directed me to it?) — anyway, they put up the entire chart of periodic elements, eliminated the gases, the liquids, the ones that burn or rust or are otherwise reactive with commonly encountered substances, the ones that spew radiation, the ones that are only made in labs, the ones so rare they weren’t even discovered until the industrial era. When they’d finished the eliminations, all that was left was gold and silver; gold being declared more valuable because it’s the one that doesn’t tarnish.
