This “Federal Health Board,” as Daschle refers to his proposed behemoth, would be modeled on Great Britain’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). In the UK’s socialized medical system, NICE is the bureaucracy responsible for determining the value and effectiveness of medical treatments and procedures. And it regularly hands down death sentences to gravely ill patients.

Ya know, as someone who is “gravely ill” with cancer, and is over 62 years of age that scares the crap out of me. As someone over 80 years of age who is in ok health (but with Type II diabetes) like my Mom, I could see where that “allocation” or rationing system could lead to violence, ya know?
Not that I’m advocating violence Stinky, just sayin…

This is a VERY personal issue NOW for a lot of Americans and it’s gonna become more personal with many more Americans in the years to come.
And part of the reason there’s a shortage of primary care physicians is because of Medicare which won’t pay them anything like a fair fee for physicals and just general health care problems.
And I have to say that it would be cheaper (and we’d all get better medical care) if the government just paid for healthcare benefits for those who CAN’T AFFORD them - and give the government more of a rooting interest in healthcare benefits/costs. I’ve been advised, for example only, that pharmacuetical companies spend TWICE as much for advertising PRESCRPTION DRUGS as they do on R&D and that’s just fucking WRONG.
