Morning realwest. Yes there is a difference between dependence and addiction. In your case it’s needed for just doing day to day things. By helping take the edge off the pain you are functional. I have known a few people on narcotics that needed it to function. I have also known people on narcotics for the buzz. Big difference between the two.
