Wasn’t that bridge collapse caused by a design flaw?

Old design, non-redundant weak point, less-than-needed maintenance.

Newer structures (I forgot the cut-off date, sorry) have redundant load paths that would have allowed the first failure without collapsing the bridge. Better inspection might have caught the degradation of the joint that initially collapsed.
