I really think conservatism as we know it is doomed if they keep on doing this sad old crap. Conservatives right now seem too proud to adapt to new realities. The electorate is growing more socially liberal. Culture wars aren’t going to work as well anymore.

Well, conservatism “as we know it” is actually fairly recent. Even Dubbya was making gains among latino voters and even Muslims (for a while). Sure the smelly specter of racism has always been there. Pat Buchanan always stayed fairly well connected. But only recently did they start again with the Birch Society stuff, “libertarian” zealotry, etc. This will burn out over time and they’ll return to some sort of pragmatism.
