Forty minutes east of here is downtown (whether Minneapolis or St. Paul depends on the traffic level). Forty minutes in any other direction is bum-fuck middle of nowhere. We are right on the edge of civilization.

I am reminded of being on the edge of civilisation. The “Welcome to Nebraska” sign on the Wyoming line west of where I live. Note all the trees.
